Introduction: Dog communication is our passion! At You and Your Dog Training & Services we use evidence based training. We initiate communication with dogs by working with them, not against them, using positive reinforcement. This is done by understanding dog behavior and using the individual dog's natural desires to our training/communication advantage. All of this is done in a fun and engaging way. Our focus is not so much the dogs but the people who live with them. We help you further understand the dog's behavior and create an environment where it is easier to be proactive, not reactive. We give you the skills to then apply at home with your daily dog communications. We are fortunate to have our passion also be our profession, helping dogs and their people. We help clients understand the behaviors that they are seeing while giving them fun and productive methods to address the situation. Finding fun and positive methods to communicate with our dogs not only strengthens our connection but also makes the process enjoyable.

We hired Ashley to help us with training our new rescue puppy Penny. We were excited to be first time pet parents and wanted to be sure we went about it the right way especially because of her status as a rescue. Ashley's instruction and guidance was instrumental in setting a good foundation for our new addition Penny. We knew we always wanted to adopt from a rescue, and when we brought our puppy home we knew that we needed to start this relationship on the right foot which of course included some training and setting rules and boundaries. Ashley adores dogs, and that shows through every training session and lesson she leads. She was great at helping establish basic commands but also answering the everyday questions that came up along the way especially for us as first time owners. There was no question too big or small. She always had the pet and the owner's best interests in mind and was helpful to provide further training on current commands or lessons, or even happy to answer behavioral questions and I enjoyed having a resource as we navigated through this new journey. Over 2 years later Penny still responds to all commands, and has been the ideal pup. Penny has a great personality and sweet temperament, but Ashley's instruction helped lay a great foundation and really established some great patterns and behaviors for not just Penny but for us too! Ashley is an excellent trainer for all pups and their parents, and I couldn't say enough wonderful things of what Ashley has done for our family and what a fabulous addition Penny has been!

Ashley was our trainer for a brand new rescue puppy, Rumney. Rumney was the first puppy for our family, and we went through an entire series of puppy classes and then adult dog classes with Ashley. With Ashley's guidance, our ability to work with Rumney, bring out the best behaviors, work to redirect undesired behaviors, and have a great relationship with Rumney has increased 1000%. Ashley was positive but firm, and she most importantly taught us, the humans, how to work with Rumney. We also went through the Good Canine Citizen class with Ashley and Rumney is proudly certified as a CGC dog. When a second rescue came into our home who was nervous and wrought with anxiety, Ashley responded promptly, thoroughly to any questions I had. We look forward to bringing our second rescue dog to Ashley for training as well. We are blessed to have had Ashley through this journey, and her keen ability to work with dogs and their humans has made a world of difference for us.

Ashley is a fantastic dog and people trainer! I have learned so much volunteering with Ashley at a local animal shelter. The dogs we work with at the shelter are a wide range of age, breed, and temperament. Ashley does a great job with all of the dogs at their individual level, whether it be with a solid start at the basics or working on problem behaviors such as impulse control, fearfulness, or pulling on the leash. While helping the dogs, she also educates other volunteers about various dog behaviors and what the dogs are communicating. She is very approachable and easy to talk with. Every session is as much about teaching the people as it is about teaching the dogs.

My boys, 1 & 2 years old, had already completed numerous levels of training through another facility. I really wanted to continue their training at a higher level. I searched for local trainers who had a different approach to training and offered classes beyond the basics. I found exactly what I was looking for with Ashley at You & Your Dog. She’s helped me to better communicate with my dogs to teach desired behaviors in a positive and upbeat manner. I love the variety of class types offered and the one hour workshops that focus on honing particular behaviors. The maximum class size of 4 dogs allows plenty of time for in-class practice and one/one guidance. We love You & Your Dog!

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer free orientation and free puppy socialization groups. My services range from $39 for an open enrollment class, $151 for a group class (6 weeks total), $109 for a one hour private lesson, and $139 for private in home lesson. All classes and private lessons are sold in packages for cost saving where the more you sign up for the more you save.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It depends on the type of dog training service, but all sessions begin either with an individual phone or in person consultation or a small group orientation. In group classes I have the ability to keep them small (up to four dogs total) allowing me to give personal attention and when necessary individualized lesson plans.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In college I received my bachelors in science with a focus on animal behavior and premed requirements. Since graduating I went on to get my CPDT-KA (certification for professional dog trainers), AKC CGC evaluator certificate, CCC-CI certified, and PetSaver certification.
