“Your band was amazing!” is one of the most frequent comments I have heard from friends and family since our wedding on July 1, 2017. And I have to agree – we were thrilled with Horizon & the Horns! We went with the full 7-piece band and they were all awesome! Amazing variety of music (check out a sampling from their song list on their website - http://www.horizonandthehorns.com/song-list.html), they can do all the classics, current pop music, swing, jazz, rock. Since the wedding, two separate friends who are planning their own weddings in different states have said they are now considering a band instead of a DJ – if they can find someone like Horizon! With a little notice, they will also learn songs – our first dance was a slowed down version of Katy Perry’s Firework (sentimental reasons ha) and they were able to do that arrangement no problem. The dance floor was packed all night and the band also appears to be having a great time with you! Beyond the music, working with Ray Novack is the best! He’s very responsive and clearly knows what he’s doing when it comes to weddings – he thinks of every detail, including many that I would have missed myself! The day-of his daughter Kelly, vocalist and more, does an awesome job of “MC-ing” the reception – every name pronounced perfectly and aware of everything going on. I realized mid-way through the dance party that I wanted a photo on the dance floor of all my college friends (husband and I are college sweethearts) – I went up to Ray, while he was on keyboard, and asked if he could work that in. He got the message to Kelly, she announced the photo, the group gathered and then we were back to dancing – it was all so seamless! Awesome music, awesome energy – thank you Horizon & the Horns! Update: A friend at the wedding just booked Horizon & the Horns for her own wedding!

These guys are awesome. Everyone at our wedding said the band was the best they have ever seen at a wedding. The lead singer Jeff, crushed our first dance song and the entire band got everyone involved throughout the night. I would definitely recommend them for your wedding. You will not be disappointed.

Mike has worked with two of my children as an instructor for drums and ukelele. He also worked with my husband and father with guitar. He is highly skilled, patient, and very cool! I even hired Mike and his band to play for my 40th birthday party and they were outstanding. We all danced and chilled out to favorite pieces. Many compliments came my way about his jazz ensemble. Mike is an all around class act.

Can not say enough amazing things about Lucas and the band. From the planning and coordination up to our wedding day he was a dream to work with and I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking for a talented, professional, and personable wedding band. He and the band learned several songs specifically for us, including a song that my maid of honor sang for our first dance. He also worked with us on some logistical challenges for moving equipment since we were planning from out of state, and came over to the venue for the rehearsal to ensure we all felt prepared. Our wedding party, family, and guests absolutely adored him and we got multiple comments about how much people enjoyed the music. We deeply appreciated his+the band's time, talent, and professionalism. Book him! You'll be happy you did.

We hired the Larry Williams Band to perform at a Corp function at the Westin, Portland ME. I was so impressed with the talent level of every member of this band! We had 'retro' theme, and they played songs from the past, as well as a vast assortment of current music. Our group hit the dance floor immediately! Larry is a true entertainer. Not only is he a talented musician, but he also engaged with our attendees all night, and got them into the party mode! The majority of people had early morning flights, but stayed up and danced to the last song. Thanks so much for making our event memorable!!

Zach did a great job of teaching my sons guitar for about 2 years. He kept it interesting for them as they are 12 year old twins. They are going to join the middle school jazz band and they owe a big part of this to Zach and his instruction.

        About

EVERYTHING! It is great to play live for an appreciative audience. We get to be an integral part of so many celebrations and good times. Music is our lives, our passion. If we didn't love it, we wouldn't do it. That love of music and performing comes through in our shows and sets us ahead of much of our competition in the entertainment industry. Another thing I like about my job is that I get to play and sing different parts. In some songs, I play electric guitar and sing lead vocals. In others I play bass, sing backing vocals, play acoustic guitar and/or play slide guitar. It never gets boring. It's so cool working with such a talented group that we can change roles many times throughout a show. Life is good!

        About

We’d love to provide fun music for your wedding celebration! We have been fortunate enough to play live, acoustic music (bluegrass, swing, roots music, old time) at numerous weddings throughout New England since 2006. In regards to music for the big day, we have found that the following formula works well for most folks: * Half an hour of mellow acoustic “seating” music prior to ceremony Processional and postlude (MP3 samples are here on our website) * 45 minutes of acoustic music amongst your guests during the cocktail reception * Fun dancing music after dinner for the reception You can use our PA for toasts and announcements. We also encourage folks to make an iPod mix of music to play during dinner, and fun dancing after we perform. (You and your friends might also love Prince of Hip Hop, or have some special songs you’d like to dance for another 30-45 minutes before the night ends!) We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have, and we provide a cost estimate. We typically book/quote events six to eight months in advance, so if you would like to secure your date, please get in touch! Also, please visit our web pages with wedding ideas specifically for Boston, on the Cape and the North Shore.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

        • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
        • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
        • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
