- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Absolutely! Ongoing training and education is the up most importance to any professional Dancer. Because there are various styles of Belly Dance, it is important to constantly learn and educated one's self, to become a versatile dancer. Workshops from some of the best trained dancers with decades of experience here in the U.S. and abroad, is essential to staying top notch. This is an art where the dancer never stops learning, regardless of how many dance years are under our sequined belt!
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Belly Dance is not a sexualized, or risqué performance. Many people have only been exposed to belly dancing in movies and on television. This gives a very false image of what this art form is really composed of. If you are one of those people who does not understand belly dancing, you are not in the minority. Belly Dancing is not Stripping or Pole Dancing. Belly dancing began as a family activity. It was not done by harem girls for their Sultan. It was done by women and children in their homes to pass the time. It was, and is, a family activity. Bellydance originally is social dancing. Today, it is common to see Dancers sparkled up to entertain on stage, weddings, restaurants, and any event that is cause for celebration! And yes Bellydance still remains a social dance in many parts of the world today, not only in the United States but in places such as Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, and etc. ALL of Linette LaTurka's belly dance shows are appropriate for any age. While a show could adopt a sensual character, it is never sexual, nor is it expected to be.
