The moment a client reviews the images from a shoot...then contacts me to tell me that they started to tear up because the images made them so happy. Also, being able to travel and see the world photographing everything from landscapes, friends, athletes, and strangers I meet along the way.

Chris came on a surf trip with me and my fiance back in September down in Costa Rica. I thought he was going down to shoot surfing photos but he had made plans with my boyfriend beforehand to capture his proposal to me during our surf session. During a sunset surf session, Chris was prepared with his underwater housing, and swam out into the ocean with us as we were surfing. When I wasn't expecting it, my boyfriend had an engagement ring float passed me and he proposed right there in the water! The moment was so beautiful and Chris captured the entire proposal.
After Chris captured our proposal and let us celebrate, he took beautiful engagement photos to capture our love, the ring, the surf, and the beautiful Costa Rican landscape. He directed us carefully and took many shots to make sure we had plenty to choose from. He did all of this while swimming with flippers in the ocean and holding a camera!! Because of him, we have engagement photos that capture our love for action sports and for each other; posing on the beach just wouldn't cut it for us! Thanks, Chris, for the beautiful photos and for capturing a moment I will never forget :)

I hired Christopher Vanderyajt to take pictures of my daughter and myself, along with our dog one fall day. Not only did he capture the most beautiful, natural pictures of she and I, but his professionalism, talent, and experience in photography absolutely "blew me away!" He has an eye that captures moments that literally brought tears to my eyes! I also hired Chris to take pictures of my son playing football for his high school team. Chris amazingly zoomed in on my son not only catching the ball but running it down the field! I was so impressed with the clarity of each picture! We have worked with Chris many times. This year he shot my 5yr old sons first day of trout fishing and the photos came out incredible. Ive never used a photographer for this type of an occasion, but I am glad I did. Chris blended right in. I assumed wed be forced to turn and smile and pose for him all day, but it was nothing like that. He mostly just captured the moments as we went about our day on the river. He came prepared and even spent a good chunk of time wading out in the water getting shots. The results speak for themselves. I did not realize how emotional of a day it was until I saw the photos afterwards.
Recently we hired Chris to shoot Christmas photos of our kids with their cousins. Again we were very happy with the results. My wife and I told Chris that we want something more interesting than the run of the mill portraits you get at a studio. Chris suggested we do the shoot right at our house. He set up outside first, getting shots of the kids in the pine trees in our yard. He had the kids pose at first, and then let them run and play after they got restless so he could take some candid shots. Next we headed inside where he set up some really fun shots, which the kids enjoyed doing. He got the kids peering thru a door at the tree like it was Christmas morning and some of them all together laughing. The kids, ranging from 1yr to 5yrs old, liked working with him and Chris was very patient. In the end we wound up with some awesome pictures of the kids. When Chris emailed me the photo he took of my 3yr old daughter running thru the pines with my 5yr old son I was speechless. She absolutely loves her brother and the way she is looking at him in this photo is worth 10,000 words. I thought they were just playing, I had no idea Chris was shooting that kind of detail.
Chris is a versatile photographer and his ability to capture action and candid moments separates him from other photographers weve used. I recommend Chris all the time and you should definitely check out his work if youre looking for a photographer.

Chris is an absolutely incredible photographer!!!! There are not enough words to express my gratitude for capturing some of the most precious moments of my life thus far. His style is flawless and he has an absolute incredible ability to capture a moment, or look in the most genuine and true-to-self way. He photographed our wedding and I felt like I didn't even know he was there, yet there were photos of people/moments that I felt as though I missed and he got them. He checked off everything of my 'list' and more and I am SOOOO happy with everything. He was professional and understanding while we planned for the big day and I truly felt that he understood what I wanted and followed through completely. I now have booked him for a shoot for my husband and his friends on a day of fishing, puppy photos for the litter we had last summer, and our holiday Christmas photos! There is not enough I could say about not only him but his expertise and final products. I would recommend him to ANYONE!

I cannot speak highly enough about Chris and the quality of his work. After seeing the images he captured of several friend's engagement shoots, I couldn't wait for a reason to hire him. We've since used him twice: For an Autumn family photo shoot featuring our new puppy and a winter shoot for our annual holiday card. Not only did he capture amazing pictures (we have received so many compliments on them), but he was also really fun to work with. Usually my husband and I feel awkward posing for pictures, yet Chris made the experience really easy and comfortable. And, the candid pictures he caught of us (especially the pup) were priceless. The turnaround time from photo shoot to the images being delivered was surprisingly short and the cost was reasonable. I would recommend him to anyone and I look forward to our next opportunity to work with him.
