FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Being also a teacher it helps to understand how to treat my customers , provide confidence and make it easy for a new comer in the game or made the transition easier for someone who is accustomed to the game but lacks proper technique or consistency . I asked questions to learn about the goals and and type of game looking to improve. Baseliner ,serve and volley, offensive or defensive style. Next step I will evaluate the skills and explain what choices are there and based on my customers wish will proceed onto the teaching process. I provide demo to each shot, explain the mechaniques and the way to achieve the right technique in the shortest period of time. A very important step is to do hand feeding next to the person to be able to see all the mistakes and be able to correct it right away.Probably this is one of the reasons a lot of students learn wrong or it takes too long to build up decent skills .Most of pro's are going on the other baseline or to the net to early in the learning process.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied in Europe/Bucharest-Romania the National Academy of Sport and PE and finished with a professional license for tennis. .I study all the time and also I improved my skill level working against the wall/the key to get better. Its amazing to be able to hit shots that look and have the same effect like the pro's!!! Slices...drops shots..american twist serve.!!! Being a HS tennis coach too/Florence HS it helped to have a different approach than the regular tennis lessons. Why? The season is 3 months/March-May and being a competitive nature had to work on a schedule based on each students abilities to be able to compete closest to our team goals. Is important to have a goal for each private lesson; it goes from achieving the correct skills/technique to the level of play each student desire. Singles, doubles player, recreational,HS or college or USTA leagues and tournaments. During my tenure(14 years) at Florence, our team won 5 Freedom division titles ,came second 5 times ,we were in 5 CJ GR 1 finals, but won 2 times and came only one point away from winning the State Championship. Five of my students who took lessons only with me played college tennis. Considering they started playing only freshmen year..is quite an achievement.I also trained 3 girls from Cinnaminson HS who played nr 1 spot in the team and won BCSL or came second. Before getting injured (4 years ago) I was ranked no 1 player in Middle States for 45 years and was playing tournaments with intention to go to Nationals, but my knee injury it stopped me.I am on my way of playing tournaments again and getting in better shape.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had played tennis all my life(beside soccer)and as a adolescent I was asked to teach younger kids or even adults..at that time I was hitting the ball mostly flat and my shots were very sound.
