FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is based on several factors: * The size of the house (bigger houses take longer) * The age of the house (older houses tend to have more insulation and structural issues) * How many heating / A/C systems the house has (2 systems take longer to test than 1). * What kind of heating / A/C system you have (a forced air system requires duct testing... other kinds do not). Call us at 866-366-3700 for a quote, or email the details of your home to strictly-business@earthlink.net. Regardless of how big, or how old your house is, or what type of heat you have, Strictly Business Energy will do the most thorough safety inspection and energy audit in the industry. We are not the cheapest, we are the best.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been doing home inspections since 2003, and have seen thousands of homes, from ones built in the 1800's to ones that are not yet completed being built. I've seen good building practices that save energy - good insulation, good air-sealing, high efficiency furnaces, high efficiency water heaters, Energy Star appliances, good quality windows, etc AND I've seen bad. I use an infrared camera when I inspect homes and it shows very vividly where and how the home leaks energy, so I know the difference between an energy efficient home and one that wastes energy. Home Energy Audits were a logical next step for me to show people how they can improve the energy efficiency of their homes. I have made an investment of over $10,000 in training and state-of-the-art equipment to be able to offer the most thorough, and comprehensive energy audit in the industry. As with my home inspections, I am committed to doing the best possible job for you, and helping you to save the most energy possible, at the lowest possible cost.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Check to see that they are certified by BPI (Building Performance Institute) as a Building Analyst, and an Envelope Specialist. That will ensure that they have the proper training and have passed a rigorous written exam, and demonstrated that they are competent to do home energy audits by actually doing them under supervision of a professional energy auditor. It's kind of like a "road test" for getting your drivers license.
