- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Here is how I price my Birthday and Special Occasion cakes: I charge per serving, just like with wedding cakes, as I have found this to be the easiest way to price the work I do. My rate is $5.50 per serving for basic cake and filling choices and iced with buttercream or fondant. Add .50 per serving for specialty cake flavors or fillings. At KimmyCake there is a minimum order of $100. 3-D Sculpted Cake rates: 3-D Cakes start at $125 ~ this price would be for a cake to serve up to 20. The price is $5.50/serving for additional servings higher than the 20. Wedding Cake rates: My rate for wedding cakes is $7.00 per serving for basic cake, filling, and design choices. All wedding cakes are iced with buttercream and covered with fondant... unless otherwise requested. Add .50 per serving for specialty cake flavors or fillings. Basic Cake Flavors are: Vanilla ~ Chocolate ~ Traditional White ~ Yellow Layer ~ White Almond ~ Lemon ~ Strawberry Specialty Cake Flavors are: Carrot ~ Cinnamon Vanilla ~ Red Velvet ~ Gluten Free Chocolate or White Basic Fillings are: Lemon ~ Strawberry ~ Apricot ~ Chocolate Mousse ~ Strawberry Mousse ~ Vanilla Custard ~ Chocolate Custard Specialty Filling Flavors are: Chocolate Ganache ~ Raspberry ~ Raspberry Mousse Deposit Requirement A $100 deposit is required to secure your date. Once we have decided on a date, price and design, I will hold your date for 1 week while waiting for the deposit. Once that week is up...if I have not received a deposit, that date will go back on my books and will be opened for others to book and secure as their date. Remember...I usually book out pretty far and fast...so if you need a "WOW" cake for your special event...please place your order early! - How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started my career in the grocery business as I worked my way through college. As I worked my way up through the ranks of management...I landed the job as Bakery manager in my early 20's and it afforded me the time and opportunity to learn the art of cake decorating from watching my employees. Incredibly, I found that I had a hidden talent that I had no idea I possessed...caking! I fell in love with the artfulness of it and after taking a 10 year sabbatical to raise my only child...I opened KimmyCake in Central California and haven't looked back.
