FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher. I trained at the UMass Medical School Center for Mindfulness. I'm a member of the NYC Mindfulness Meditation Collaborative--a group of MBSR teachers who all trained through the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness. We meet monthly to discuss MBSR, news from the CFM, and to give and get teaching support. I also go on regular meditation retreats to continue to deepen my own practice.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I learned how to meditate when I was in high school and suffering from a flareup of a chronic illness. Back then, meditation was so helpful for me in seeing the wholeness of the situation. It helped me to see what was good about my life and my body. Meditation felt like a way of taking care of myself. After high school I continued to practice. As a graduate student at Columbia I found myself teaching meditation in a writing course I was teaching, and realized how helpful this was to others. So I embarked on the MBSR teacher training path, as well as a yearlong teaching immersion program at The Interdependence Project. I can't think of a better way to spend my time than teaching others mindfulness and meditation, and I am so happy that I get to do this work.
