About
As a photojournalist and storytelling style photographer, you won't get the typical posed, carefully arranged, typical stock photography looking shots. I like to capture life as it happens - as real and in the moment as possible. Whether that's portraits, food or architecture, I try to bring life, vibrance and a unique perspective to every shot. Photography is a bit of a super power - it makes you see and appreciate the world differently, because it gives you the ability to actually stop time and preserve those special moments that otherwise would have come and gone in a fraction of a second. A photographer named Chris Orwig said, "the camera is about savoring life. It savors those moments that otherwise would have just slipped away."

Brian was quick with his quote and happy to guide and answer questions he's probably had a thousand times. On the day he was everywhere we needed him to be but I hardly noticed him - sign of a great photographer. We didn't want "traditional" photos and Brian clearly understood what we were after for the day. The quality of his photos, his flexibility and overall style of photography was perfect for us and all of our friends love the photos. Thanks for making our day Brian - you were fantastic. Brian Eden photographed my parent's surprise 35th Wedding Anniversary party on Saturday, August 16th, 2014 at the F&J Pine Restaurant in the Bronx. I found Brian Eden through Thumbtack and I never had a doubt in my mind that he was going to be an amazing photographer for my parent's special day. He went above and beyond to make this day special for my parents. He even was able to capture them getting out of the car to go into the restaurant. He was on time and very professional and the photographs came out absolutely beautiful! If you pick Brian for your event, you will not be sorry! He is amazing!! Thank you again Brian for capturing such special moments that they will treasure forever.

Hired on Thumbtack

We hired Brian through Thumbtack to photograph our sons rehearsal dinner aboard the Atlatis. Being from out of state, Thumbtack was able to introduce us to photographers available to do the job. After looking at everyone's portfolio's, we selected Brian. We loved what he did with lighting, capturing candid's, and black and whites. He did not disappoint. The pictures are amazing. I highly recommend Brian for your event and thank you for capturing our special night. L&M Hoffman

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Photography techniques and camera and software technology is constantly changing. We can do things now that were impossible even five years ago. So it's definitely necessary to keep up with all of the changes in the industry. Luckily, there is a ton of educational resources online. Aside from keeping up with blogs and trade publications, I subscribe to KelbyOne, which is a education and video tutorial site run by the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

My favorite recent project was a job that I found through Thumbtack - a pre-prom portrait session in Central Park. I showed up imagining my own awkward prom images. You know the kind - guy standing behind the girl, hand on her hip, blue backdrop, fake potted plant, awkward adolescence in full effect. So it was great to get outside and redefine what pre-prom photos could be. Instead of shooting it like a posed prom shoot, I approached the job like I was shooting a wedding. I put the clients in the most flattering light and let them just be themselves, joke around and have fun with each other. You can see the difference it made in the photos. Even the posed stuff feels more natural and comfortable.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Pay attention to a photographer's portfolio of images. You should be able to get a sense of the photographer, their style and the images they're going to create for you by looking through the photos they've shared.
