About
I was born and raised in Japan, attended Berklee College of Music, and now work as a professional musician and tutor. I’ve been teaching Japanese for 12 years and have taught over 100 students. I’ve also helped many students prepare for and pass the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). After graduating from college, I moved back to Japan for a year and a half, where I taught English to Japanese children. I also worked closely with visiting international staff as a Japanese teacher and translator. Having learned a second language myself, I understand how challenging it can be. I approach every student with patience, encouragement, and sensitivity to their individual needs. I ask my students to keep a daily journal, which becomes the focus of our class discussions. This brings reading, writing, and speaking together through topics that are personal and relevant to you. I also incorporate Japanese culture and everyday life including cuisine, music, art, etiquette, and current events to keep our lessons fun and engaging. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information or to arrange your free trial lesson!

Junichi's a great tutor! I started learning Japanese from him only 5 months ago and have pretty much mastered the basics of Japanese grammar already. He is also genuinely concerned with the progress of his student, and is interested in teaching not just the language itself, but fun things about Japanese culture as well. All in all my learning experience with him was a positive one and would definitely recommend him to anyone interested in learning Japanese.
