FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
In my first year of undergraduate studies I declared my major in music composition, all while I continued to play the trumpet. There was never really any other option for me, I had been doing music since I was a kid (started playing piano at 6 years old), so it wasn't something I had to think about. It was the natural thing to do.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Apart from teaching music (trumpet, composition/arranging, improv, music software) I perform regularly with a wide array of groups, ranging from jazz, traditional swing bands, funk, rock/pop, salsa, etc. I also arrange for certain groups, as well as compose for my own. I also work part time at a non-profit organization in Manhattan, where we organize concerts, festivals, competitions and musical education programming around the world.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Take your time. Music isn't easy - there are easy fixes, but in the long run, if you're serious about music, it's best to take your time and be patient with yourself. Everyone learns at different speeds, but with the right tools everyone can get to the level they want.
