FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do offer discounts with lesson packages. I still require payment if student cancels a lesson under 24 hrs before the lesson. Before 24 hrs, no problem.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to talk a bit with the customer....find out what experience they have, what they would like to achieve and, if a singing lesson, hear them sing a bit so I can get to know their voice and see what we need to work on as well as choose material to work on. We may then just do a couple of exercises to start so they can see how I work. In songwriting, I like to get to know what styles of music and lyric-writing they like and we'll start by talking about the different kinds of song structure and come up with a theme to start writing a first song using the simplest structure first.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Music degree Cum Laude in voice/opera from California State University, Northridge, a very well known school for opera that several famous singers have come out of...Carol Vaness, for one. Singing experience...soloist and full time chorus member of the San Francisco Opera, roles in many operas and musicals with many companies, soloist with the Los Angeles Honor Choir and a member of the Young Americans show choir...both when I was in high school. A member of the Grammy winning Gregg Smith Singers, a group specializing in new, modern choral music. I've sung at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, many jobs singing with churches and synagogues. As a songwriter, I won a Drammy award (Portland, OR's Tony Award) for composing original music for the musical, "Under the Influence". I was twice a finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award for 2 other musicals. My musical adaptation of Pride & Prejudice has had productions throughout the US and in the UK, was on the radio as a radio play last summer, and a concert at 54 Below in NYC with Broadway stars. I was commissioned to compose music for the torch lighting ceremony of the 2018 Empire State Games and "Transitions" for piano was performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. I've written over 300 songs (music and lyrics), several musicals, lots of choral music (Shalshelet award for "Sim Shalom") and art songs and studied songwriting and composition at UCLA and the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop in NYC. As a teacher, I've worked the last 20 yrs with TADA!, Brooklyn Children's Theatre, STEPS on Broadway, The Neighborhood Playhouse among others, teaching singing, acting and songwriting.
