Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: By broadening the focus to include not only vocal technique but healthy physical and emotional integration, the art of vocalization and performance can blossom from the inside, out. It's not only about what you are communicating, but HOW you are communicating that will build healthy habits and set you apart as an artist. Connecting with students on a human level. Reducing some of the strict formality that can accompany classical training and focusing on what makes an individual's voice and style unique. I am not building cookie-cutter voices. I want to teach you to enhance your natural strengths and personality as a vocalist.

I've only had one session with Abby so far but can't wait for more. I've never done any voice instruction before, and she made me feel instantly comfortable while also challenging me, which is a rare combination. She's a ton of fun with a foundation of what feels like serious technique. Looking forward to what's to come.

Abby is a wonderful and talented voice instructor and person! Her holistic approach, which includes traditional singing exercises plus bodily and mental care and preparation, has been essential to helping me grow vocally. Since the body is the instrument for singers, this attention to how the pieces of myself are connected makes a huge difference. In a short amount of time working with Abby, I have particularly learned how to feel my way into belt voice, a register that has long been a challenge for me. I sing mostly as a hobby, but I know Abby also works with many professional singers. I would highly recommend her to any level singer. She definitely knows her stuff (and she has a gorgeous voice herself).

I can't say enough about Abby. Not only is she wonderful at teaching pure technique, but she starts off every lesson with some guided meditation, which relaxes you and makes you feel safe and comfortable both with her, and with yourself. Since studying with her, my range has improved vastly, my belt has grown and become so easy that it doesn't even feel like I'm belting (I was pushing like crazy before I started with Abby), and I now have a legit range, which I honestly thought I didn't even possess. And if all of this isn't enough, she's an incredibly nurturing and caring teacher: she always checks in, is supportive of whatever you're doing, and she's great at helping you find material. Also, she's a working professional herself, which is incredibly encouraging as a student (I've been to her shows, and she practices what she preaches). I can't recommend her highly enough.

Abby is a clear, supportive, and inspiring teacher -- she knows what she is talking about and is adept at creatively explaining it to her students. Her instruction of awareness of the breath and grounding of the body has made me much more conscious of the tools I'm working with and has made it possible for this beginning singer to sing out, Louise!!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Through my own journey as a musician and performer, I have been so grateful to my teachers for their expertise, wisdom, and guidance. It was the natural next step to give back by passing along to my students the methods, lessons and ideology that has helped me to evolve as an artist and human being.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Vocal lessons can be a very intimate experience. There is a degree of vulnerability present when exploring the voice. It is important to have a teacher that you can feel comfortable with, but who will also challenge you. There is a major aspect of psychology in what I do, so I make it my goal to individualize the experience for each student. I work within my students' experience level, goals, and limitations to achieve a positive work environment for us both. My advice is to students is to trust their instincts when it comes to selecting a teacher. And recognize that it may take a few tries to find a teacher best suited for their needs and individuality.
