About
I start students with a foundation in music theory so that they can branch into any instrument or musical genre to choose. I have played professionally in everything from solo classical music, to jazz ensembles to pop/rock bands having won multiple awards in Western New York. The best part about my job is that I am able to impart the gift of music. Having a foundation in theory and piano opens doors for years, even decades to come.

James has been teaching my 6 year old son piano for about a month now. He is a gifted teacher, particularly with children, and my son looks forward to his lesson times. I would encourage any parent to trust James with teaching their child piano. He is very patient and interactive

I have had a great experience overall. I was looking for a drum teacher for my autistic grandson. The person you put me in contact with felt that he could recommend someone more suited to the situation and it has worked wonderfully so far. My grandson is very happy and loves his classes. Therefore, I am happy, too. Thank you!!

My 9 year old daughter is having such a positive experience taking piano lessons from ‘Mr. JT’ - He makes learning the piano FUN (so important for children) ! She has learned so much after just a few months of lessons and remains excited to practice, learn the theory behind music, and loves trying to figure out how to play her favorite songs! Having myself taken years of lessons as a child, I remember the day I got to the point when my teacher told my mom that he had taken me as far as he could and how disappointed I was. I appreciate that as my daughter improves her playing skills, she can stay with the same teacher who has so much to offer since he plays at a professional level. Exceptional!

I'm very surprised how fast my daughter is learning to play the piano. He made learning fun and enjoyable. I like the fact he'll go over the allotted time just to make that my daughter understand the lesson.

My name is james as well and I recieved lessons from Janes as an adult. I appreciate the patience taken to teach someone with no musical knowledge .. The valuable lessons learn d I still apply to this day .. James is not just on time he's normally early for appointments one of the most impressive things is his continual thirst for knowledge and growing in his craft to better help others

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I teach 45 minute lessons for $45. Lessons occasionally will last up to 60 minutes, but that has no effect on price. Currently running a special for "Thumbtack" - All first lessons are free!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Even after 28 years of experience, I still personally take private lessons from professionals in the music performance industry as well as online courses through the Berklee School of Music (via Coursera) periodically to brush up on my skills and any new developments in my field.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask for references. A great music instructor should have great references. Never choose a music instructor based on price alone. Also ensure your teacher has had a background check. If you use "Thumbtack" this should be recognizable in their profile.
