FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Believe it or not...the newspaper. I was looking for a new job and it was listed in the paper. I began under someone else and eventually started my own business in a different state so I didn't take work from my old boss.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Well I went to a woman's house and she wanted her chimney cleaned. She had not used it in years and wanted it cleaned to make sure she could use it. A couple of years ago she had a roof put on and the roofers removed the pre-fab chimney pipe and never installed it correctly. The fumes would have vented around the pipe and if she ever had a chimney fire she could have burned down the house. I took it all apart and fixed it up good as new. She was very happy.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure they have insurance!!!! This is key to a business like this. If you hire a guy that takes "shortcuts" it may end up being costly for you. For example a chimney liner is a common fix in your home. Companies will install very cheap materials to keep the profits up. This could result in you having to do it again in the future. I install materials that I would only install in my own home. Or someone could install it wrong or badly leaving you in danger. Check references and see some of their work before hiring.
