FAQs
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The number one piece of advice I would give a customer looking to hire an aerial photographer is always ask if they carry a Part 107 A license. When hearing the word “drone” most people think of a simple flying device that takes pictures and videos. The reality is a drone is an extremely powerful unmanned aircraft that can be very dangerous if it’s pilot is not trained and credentialed properly. In 2016 the FAA has made it a requirement for people who wish to fly drones for the purpose of furthering a business, to pass what’s called the Part 107 certification exam. Given the often misunderstood complexities and dangers of operating a drone, the exam provides the prerequisite framework and knowledge base to operate a successful drone mission. When hiring a drone company to perform aerial photos or videos of your listing, it’s vitally essential to confirm this pilot is well equipped and duly qualified to carry out a successful drone operation. Failure to do so could result in serious consequences. You risk liability from the homeowners and can even be fined up to $10,000 if you knowingly hire someone without this license.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
First and foremost, a customer should always confirm the drone pilot is credentialed and certified with whats called a Part 107 license. Other questions to consider are: What is the end goal of creating an aerial video of your property? Should the focus of the video be on the property or it’s surrounding community? Are you prepared to have aerial footage taken? Will cars be out of the drive way? Is your backyard prepared? Is the pool cleaned?
