We hired Nick to DJ an event we had in New Haven, CT and he was great! He arrived early and was completely set up at least 30 minutes before the event started - which was greatly appreciated! He even brought his own DJ booth and lights. I should have given him more of a heads up on the type of music we wanted, but once I gave him a few examples of some bands to play he did a great job keeping it up. He also did a wonderful job making announcements throughout the event to keep the attendees in the loop. In our original agreement Nick said he would bring a photographer and would leave us with a thumb drive of all the pictures. We thought this offer was ABOVE and BEYOND so knew he would be great to work with. Unfortunately the photographer wasn't at the event, but Nick did have a nice camera that we were able to take photos with. I'm waiting for Nick to mail me those photos on a thumb drive and as long as I get those soon I am comfortable leaving a 5 star review! Nick was a great guy so I know they will be in the mail any day now. And as an added bonus: he sings! If you're event go-ers are into Frank Sinatra, make sure to let Nick know and he'll put on a show. ;-)
Working with Sweet Harmony was fantastic, every step of the way. I worked with Tara, the owner as well as one of the musicians on the day. We had a keyboardist and violinist for the ceremony and a keyboardist and saxophone player for the cocktail hour. We were able to choose all of the songs we wanted for the ceremony, including a special request to play during a break. Tara helped me select pieces that would work well together while making sure to find the perfect place for the wide range of songs we wanted included. (Fields of Gold - check, Ave Maria - check!) It really elevated the ceremony and we're so lucky to have had them! Unfortunately, I didn't get to hear the sax & keyboard during cocktail hour, and from what I heard, I missed quite a performance! Friends could not stop talking about it, and even mentioned that they stayed close to the music so that they wouldn't miss any songs! I can't recommend Sweet Harmony highly enough! Even if you are not sure if you "need" live music, I'd suggest that you look into them. Tara is happy to work with you on your needs and I think you'll be convinced it's worth it!
We just wanted to say that we cannot thank Scott enough!!!! He and the band went above and beyond in not only taking on the task of learning new songs, but you sounded astounding. Any time that someone said "what a beautiful wedding" it was IMMEDIATELY followed by "and this band is AMAZING! How did you find someone so great?!" We were so thrilled. There could not have been a better way to seal the deal of an old school wedding vibe, and everyone from young to old said that it was all the band who made our vision complete. They played live music for the entire wedding, and although I was hidden for the beginning of the ceremony, as soon as we emerged after cocktail hour it was one of the first things that everyone said. Plus their rendition of La Vie En Rose was one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. We really cannot thank then enough and just want to express our gratitude for their talent, responsiveness, and overall absolute kindness. Sincerely, The Newlyweds
Ivan was fantastic. Responsive, professional, and amazing talent to perform the songs you want. He even let us borrow a mic for the ceremony!
The Al Louis Band with Al Louis Entertainment did a fantastic job at our wedding. We added the DJ package to the live band and it was truly a seamless night of great music! A++++! Thank you Al for making it a night to remember! Drew and Kris
Gary is FABULOUS! He is patient and kind, and really quite funny! Best of all, Gary can cultivate a child's natural talent for music. One of the many awesome skills Gary has is the ability to group children together to form bands. He puts bands together where the children bring out each other's musical strengths. These kids have ended up forming friendships and bonds that are long lasting. Even a shy child feels comfortable performing, after Gary's encouragement and tutelage. My oldest child, now in college, attributes his love for music to Gary. We cannot say enough positive things about Gary and encourage everyone to bring their children to Gary for music lessons.
I've played with Jimi since the first time I picked up the instrument (bass for 11 years). Lessons with him enabled me to play in big bands and small ensembles at the college level, as well as have a steady stream of gigs when I was in school. His method of teaching is sadly growing rarer and rarer in private lesson study. Rather than mandate to the student rote musical examples which are a.) boring and b.) relate nothing about learning actual music, Jimi's approach is a holistic one that has faith in pupil's drive and intelligence. He demonstrates aspects of music theory fundamentals, and then has the student utilize the formulas he has imparted to extrapolate the rest, with his guidance of course. If the student has trouble, Jimi instructs to fill in the gaps but never spoon feeds. This method insures the student actually learns and internalizes the information, rather than becomes an automaton. Moreover, Jimi encourages the students to bring in pieces that they actually like to play! So instead of spending months hammering out a highly diluted version of a Bach morning song, the student can bring in pieces by Zep, the Strokes, the Black Keys, Rihanna, whatever! Jimi then instructs through elucidating the music theory fundamentals within the songs that drew the student to the instrument in the first place! Jimi is professional, yet laid back. I have continued my friendship with him after studying and going on to professional life. He's just a good dude to know. Lastly, and this should be the last thing you consider. Jimi's rates are always reasonable. For private study in college, I paid 3-4 times as much for a lesson as what I paid when taking a lesson with Jimi. I hope you Long Islander aspiring musicians realize what a gem you have there.
Way overdue in submitting this but I'm incredibly busy. These guys were excellent they made our Thanksgiving a seamless happy holiday event with our family. We didn't have to worry about the minor details. Very reasonably priced. If you want to have a great party or holiday event with your family hire these guys!
Sean and his band provided ideal lively jazz music at a local event. They were super easy to communicate with beforehand, and they played beautifully to a large very appreciative crowd. I strongly recommend them.
Taking lessons with Jonathan has been a blast. While I'm not a "new" person I'm a pretty new player and the variety of music I've learned has kept it interesting and challenging. We've worked on classical pieces, Beatles, bluegrass and jazz and blues. He's taught me a lot of theory as well as practical technique. And how to practice. The past few years have changed the way I listen to music.
Soulful Sounds were the perfect choice for our son's graduation party! It was an amazing night with thunderstorms, rainbow & music ! They played to a large gathering of over a 100 people. A very professional band who adjusted to the situation and played remarkably. Highly recommend!
The Wayne Batchelor jazz trio was the perfect band for our gala. Each member was super talented and professional - they worked so well together and were very friendly and personable with staff and attendees at the gala. One thing specifically noted - that I think is very important - they were great at reading the audience, and providing just what was needed for the event. They were not so loud that they drowned out conversation, but provided beautiful background music. We received so many comments on how great they were. They were definitely a class act. Our gala theme was the Red Tie Gala - each band member wore a red bow tie. No one asked them to - just a small example of their attention to detail and their desire to provide the best experience possible. They will definitely be our "go to" band for events!
Working with Jacob was better than I could've ever expected. He was super supportive and responsive. We hit the ground running with songs I had only dreamed of being able to play. On top of that, he gave me the confidence to perform for friends, family, and a few real live gigs. I would 100% recommend him as a teacher, but do it before he gets booked up.
Chanan was a joy to work with! Knowledgeable and skilled and very creative. He helped produce a record of sacred music for me and also provided back up guitar for my band when needed a few times in Dallas. He is an exceptional engineer and guitar player with a fine ear for detail.
Nick was the best! We had a cocktail party at our house and his 2 group band was just what we needed, playing smooth jazz and setting a wonderful mood for the party. Punctual, professional, friendly, and an excellent musician too. I'll be rehiring in the future.
I came to Sarah with a goal of wanting to accompany myself as a singer, instead of having to rely on a guitarist or a band. In less than a year I played my first solo show. Sarah has prepared me to play solo, with a band, how to rearrange songs, how to read sheet music and so much more. Every lesson I learn something different. She’s made learning piano fun and interesting. Sarah is very patient, kind and extremely talented. I’d never go anywhere else!
I had the honor of having Tye Austin perform at an ecology and sustainability benefit I was hosting back in the summer of 2015. The theme for the event was Return to Simplicity. Everything at the event was minimalist in design and completed using ecological and sustainable practices, including the use of minimal electricity, and where needed it was provided only with renewable energy. It was important for us to have acoustic music that could compliment the naturalistic setting, but still maintain a high level of elegance and sophistication. Tye went out of us his way to help us arrange the music area to accomplish just this while still projecting loud enough for an audience of over 60 people. His natural professionalism, attention to detail and passion for every aspect of the experience was wonderfully enjoyed. His performance was the most raw and visceral part of the entire evening. Everyone in attendance was captivated and mesmerized by the power and beauty of living music. Even the crickets and birds were in sync. I would highly recommend Tye to anyone who is considering having music at their event. I know everyone in attendance that night would most certainly as well. Thank you so much Tye for such a memorable evening. It was a privilege creating with you. Chase Waters San Francisco, California
I Love working with Jeff and all of his bands and bandmates! He's very easy to work with, very fair and reasonable. He and all of his bands play great and give it their all every time they play!
I hired Peter to play an outdoor party that I do every year to entertain friends and a few clients. This is the first time that I hired an entertainer, I usually just play my stereo in the background. Peter changed the entire atmosphere of the party. For starters, he sounded like a full band with his backup tracks. Then he accommodated so many of my guests requests. He is like a literal walking library of music. He did all kinds of pop rock hits and even accommodated a request for Sinatra and Roy Orbison. Then I asked for some Motown and dance. He literally covered all of our requests and even entertained with a few impressions of stars. We had a blast when Peter did a few sing along tunes. I didn't know so many people love to sing. Well, I definitely recommend Peter and plan to have him back next year.
Helene was my piano teacher from kindergarten through high school. She taught me how to read, understand, play and love music. Furthermore, my early -and in-depth- start with piano prepared me for years of trumpet in various advanced bands. Although I am not currently taking lessons, I still sit down to play piano whenever I get the chance. I'll play anything from Bach to Beethoven to Josh Groban to new and classic Disney - really anything I'm in the mood for. Helene's teaching has made me proficient enough in piano and music in general such that I can truly enjoy playing. Thanks Helene!!
Revolving door band is an absolute pleasure to work with. Extremely talented professional musicians covering an extremely wide range of music. From rock to grunge to 90’s to funk and beyond they covered it all. Especially enjoyed their multi song medleys to keep the energy of the party up all night. Very much look Forward to future work with this band. If you are looking for an extremely versatile band for your event, look no further.
