Roland is generous, professional, and knowledgeable. He taught me a foundation in photography. When we began working together, he took the time to fully understand what I already knew and what I hoped to be able to do with my camera. We scheduled lessons at my in-house studio in Muttontown, NY. He arrived promptly with a tailored lesson, magazine articles about photography that he thought would interest me, and he always stayed till I ran out of questions- no short order. Then, he would email with detailed answers to tangent questions that popped-up. He shared countless tools for taking better photos in camera and how to edit them. He taught me about shutter speed and direction of light. Most importantly, he encouraged me to keep clicking through the frustrating moments of learning anything new. If you are looking for an inspired teacher, he is the best!

One year ago, I had the pleasure of working with Roland to capture one of the most special days in our life. To say that Roland captured the memory well, is a complete under-statement. Roland defines attention to detail and passion for capturing the moment. Once I met him and saw that he was calculating the wind direction, where the sun would be, and the complete game-plan for success; I knew I was in good hands. This wasn't a "job" for Roland, as you honestly felt there wasn't another place in the world he would've rather been, than with us capturing our engagement. We planned for a perfect surprise in Central Park and it sure was perfect. Soon after friends and family started to ask who took the secret photo's and now I've had other friends use his services. To be very honest here, I'm not one to write posts, but I felt it was important that others understand why utilizing Roland would be the best decision they could make. I could get into the complete story, but I would suggest reading his blogs to learn more, as I don't want to write a novel here. To sum it up, Roland helped us create a memory which is something so special to us. Roland, all we can say, is...THANK YOU!

I hired Roland for a very specific purpose, capture photos of my parents, my brother’s and my family. We had not been together as a family in 10 years. I hoped Roland would be able to capture a group family photo that my parents would cherish, as well as, a range of candid photos that would capture each of our unique personalities. I moved from America, 14 years ago and opportunities to come home to the states are few and far between. My daughter has no memory of meeting her cousins and one of my key hopes was to photograph the interactions between the cousins as they were occurring and new memories were being shaped. I felt comfortable after reviewing Roland’s website and portfolio that his skills, experience and photographic eye would deliver the results I was seeking. I provided Roland with little guidance or direction. Instead I choose to trust in Roland and his photographic vision. We communicated ideas back and forth via email and text messages from different time zones. We established a final ‘photo shoot’ plan without ever having met or spoken on the phone. Nonetheless, I was totally comfortable with the approach we had agreed upon. Roland delivered exactly as I had hoped he would. In fact, he delivered more than expected. I received crystal clear photos that captured the whole family, my immediate family and individual family members. Most importantly, the photos captured us, our individual personalities and unique traits. Roland captured a special home coming and now the photos will continue to provide an ongoing visual and emotional connection; even now that I am back in Australia, half a world away from my parents and my brother’s family. I am immensely grateful and feel privileged to have had Roland capture this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Roland did a fantastic job of making sure we got what we wanted and gave good direction to ensure our pics turned out beautiful. He was very professional and his assistant/wife Cindy was very helpful and pleasant! Would definitely recommend to family and friends! Thanks for capturing our special day!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I read a lot of photography related books and magazines. I give classes on a regular base and I work one day per week in a photography shop. This is great in order to see what's out in the market. I take classes myself as well.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Well almost every photographer fights with the same issue. A lot of people think an iPhone will do it. I have to say an iPhone takes great pictures but most of the jobs I do I couldn't do with an iPhone. There is reason why a single lens can cost $2500.00
