FAQs
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The IRS requires tax professionals to have a PTIN #, and NYS requires all tax professionals to register with the state and have a NYTPRIN #. In this day and age, people need to be cautious. A customer should check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure that the company is acting ethically. Another thing to be careful of, make sure that the fee you are paying is not based on the size of your refund. Also make sure that the tax professional is willing to sign all tax returns. That is important if they are unwilling to put their name to it, how confident can you be in the quality of the work. It is also important that you will be able have contact with that person even after tax season, if there are any issues.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I wish they understood that it is a profession that takes time and experience to be good at. Not everyone can do it. Basically, you wouldn't have your neighbor take out your tooth, why would you let them do your taxes?
