- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Gary worked in construction when he was in his 20's while he attended school. We met at Farmingdale University where we were finishing our degrees in business. Soon after we were married in 1982, Gary and I started investing and flipping houses while we both worked for Grumman. I went back to school and became a certified draftsperson and started designing the work we would do. Building new homes and remodeling existing homes became a passion. With Grumman closing most of it's plants we took our passion and made it our full time career. Our oldest son, Sean, grew up around construction sites. He worked on our projects all through high school and college. He started as a helper sweeping up after all the trades. Upon returning from St. Leo University, Sean came on board full time. By this time he was a superior craftsman as well as an astute business man. He demands the best from all trades that set foot on our projects. He brought with him not only a passion for construction, but also fresh ideas and the technology today's client client is looking for. Today, if you stop by our showroom you will see our 2 year old grandson playing with his toy hammer and bench....the start of the third generation of G. B. Construction and Development, Inc.
