Introduction: 20 Years experience- NCAA Head Coach, youth swimming, USA Swimming Olympic Trials Level Coach, American Swim Coaches Association Level 4 Coach, Ocean lifeguard Our Professional Swim Lessons are simply the best in the business. Corporate Swim schools utilize inexperienced and under-educated instructors. Recreation programs can't offer the level of professionalism either. These programs simply don't use highly qualified instructors. Our Swim Instructors have the highest level of training. Some have even received coach's training at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. I enjoy watching students progress and build confidence. The growth of the skills and feeling of confidence they get after learning new skills is the best part of the experience for me.

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

My friend and I hired Matt to teach my 2yr old and her 1.5yr old basic swimming at our home. He was wonderful with them and at the end of the summer my son was comfortable going under water, blowing bubbles and floating on his back. I would recommend him and hope to have him come back next summer.

Matt trained my husband and I for roughly 2.5-3 months. Twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6-7am. Each session included various customized exercises that Matt had already planned for us for the day. We trained at the gym at our apartment building so we used most of the machines provided at the gym. We worked on cardio, muscle work, weights, stretching, etc. By the end of each class, we were sore in a good way and felt that our full body was worked out well. While waking up in the morning and dragging ourselves down to the gym was a pain, after every workout session, we felt energized and excited to start the day. We cannot underestimate how much hard work Matt put in planning ahead and making our workout sessions incredibly potent. We didn't waste time waiting for him to think of new exercises. Matt was always well prepared, thorough, on time and we found him to be professional and polite. Matt always reached out to us for reminding us on the night before each workout and in case of any changes to the schedule, let us know well ahead of time. Starting out, my husband and I had specific concerns and goals that we wanted to meet by the end of our targetted time. Husband had lower back pain so Matt made him do special stretches and weight exercises to help with that. I had postural concerns which, by the end, I felt were improved quiet a bit and my upper back and shoulder area became stronger. I also asked Matt to add ab exercises. Matt also helped us with improving our food intake/diet via my fitness pal (an app we downloaded on our phones). He would suggest incorporating certain foods, and vitamin supplements to our diet and even suggested some brands of certain foods that might work better for our health. Overall, if it weren't for impossible scheduling, we would have still been training with Matt.

Matt responded quickly to my thumbtack request and we had a meeting set up that day. The Good: Matt appears knowledgable about the body and knows many exercises. I imagine he would be an amazing swim coach based on his credentials. The Not So Good: There was some hemming and hawing by him over prices. The price he quoted me on thumbtack was actually for half an hour not an hour and when I told him my budget and goals he told me he could work with that budget. However things changed when we met for my first workout. He seemed really uncomfortable for most of the session then at the end he back peddled on pricing and told me that he couldn't offer me a package that fit into my budget. This is fine but I wish he would have told me that the day we met rather than have us go through such an uncomfortable session. When I work with a trainer I need someone who is confident and well rounded and this includes asking for what they deserve in pricing. If Matt had been up front about his pricing I might have felt better simply working out with him once or twice a week. When a trainer undervalues himself it does not make me feel good about working with them. I think Matt needs to work on his assertiveness in the sales department. It would have colored my experience differently.

Rocco, I am sorry I was unclear about my in-studio personal training service. I would be happy to offer you a consolation package if you would like. I enjoyed our training, and I hope that I was able to at least show you some new exercises, techniques, and nutritional insight.

As a personal trainer for my 16 year old swimmer, Matt has provided outstanding guidance and training. He is thorough and provided tremendous insight for her training and performance. His complete view of nutrition, exercise and training tips has made it a very favorable experience for her. He is consistently on time and works with her schedule. I would highly recommend him as an Athletic Trainer.

Thanks for the 5 Stars! It is great to see her make so much progress over the past 3+ years of personal training. She has excelled with the weight training, and she has corrected many weaknesses. I am very proud to continue to help her all these years.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

B.S. Exercise Science American Swim Coaches Association Level 4 Certified Coach USA Swimming Certified Coach CPR/AED. First Aid, Lifeguard Training Jones Beach Ocean Lifeguard

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask for a resume. It should contain impressive information, not just "certified bla bla bla". You will know a true professional when you see one. You are hiring this person, so ask for a resume.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Don't trust a simple certification. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is a poor certification. It does not separate qualified instructors from the crowd. Look for experience, and knowledge. Hire a true professional.
