When I launched my travel blog in 2009, I had no choice but to become an early adopter of social media in order to drive traffic to the site. I was recognized for my Twitter influence by being invited on the first-ever Twitter oriented press trip, and I've since grown my following to over 34,000. Teaching others how to use social media strategically is my passion, and I've taught media professionals and entrepreneurs at Columbia Journalism School (my alma mater), NYU and Mediabistro. I've also had the opportunity to consult with companies and organizations including Perrier-Jouet, Austria Tourist Info, Dataminr, Brick Underground, Carnegie Corporation of New York and Partnership for a Healthier NYC. Before I branched out on my own, I held editorial staff positions at Fortune, Good Housekeeping, Folio, ABC News and Zagat, where I helped develop the weekly e-newsletters. I'm also a freelance writer with work appearing in Martha Stewart Living and Mashable, and part of the inaugural group of social media correspondents for BBC Travel.
