For my beginner students, I normally work with each student's requirements in terms of various conversational practices. For intermediate and advance students, we would read the newspaper together, and then discuss the main issue.

I highly recommend Emily.
She is a terrific teacher. Emily spends a lot of time planning out the lessons and the material we cover. She cares a tremendous amount about my progress and genuinely wants me to learn and enjoy the language. We are 2 months in and I think I've already made a lot of progress. She makes the lessons fun and interactive and is also very creative with the home work. She puts in a lot of effort with the classes/lesson plans which is very motivating.
You can't go wrong working with her!

Emily's lesson plan is excellent. She is so well prepared and tailors lessons perfectly. She not only teaches during the allotted period, but prepares at home and emails assignments in a timely fashion. She has a great understanding of language. I highly recommend her!

Emily has been tutoring my ten year old son for the past 2 months and since then he has been doing great in his Mandarin class. Since he started working with Emily, he brings home nothing but 100's on his Exams and Quiz's. Aside for his grades he has become more confident in his other classes and activities. knowing that with the right tutor and a little hard work, he can achieve a lot. My son's teacher says he has requested to take mandarin in the fall so I look forward to working with Emily as I transform him into an Bi-lingual child. Emily has already provided me with a list of study materials so we can work on over the summer. She's always a step ahead and has his best interest in mind. I'm so happy to have found her on thumbtack and would recommend her for any job, big or small.

Emily is a great teacher who helps me tailor my lessons to my needs. I'm at a pretty advanced level so a lot of what she helps me with is find specialized vocabulary and readings and then discuss them. Emily's Chinese is very standard which is helpful (many native Chinese speakers have heavy regional accents). Scheduling has been easy.
