I provide both private and small group of fundamental Chinese courses through intermediate and advanced levels.
For my beginner students, I normally work with each student's requirements in terms of various conversational practices. For intermediate and advance students, we would read the newspaper together, and then discuss the main issue.

Emily Lai is one of the best Chinese teachers I ever had. She is very knowlegeble, experienced, competent. Above all she has a talent and a passion for helping new beginner students like myself to acquire self confidence in the learning process. I love to study Chinese with her.

I engaged Yeni Lai as my teacher for Mandarin Chinese about three years ago. I received instruction in speaking and listening comprehension, but not in writing Chinese characters. I have had several teachers of Chinese before, but Emily stands out as the best. I would recommend her without hesitation.
Pros:

Emily has been tutoring my ten year old son for the past 2 months and since then he has been doing great in his Mandarin class. Since he started working with Emily, he brings home nothing but 100's on his Exams and Quiz's. Aside for his grades he has become more confident in his other classes and activities. knowing that with the right tutor and a little hard work, he can achieve a lot. My son's teacher says he has requested to take mandarin in the fall so I look forward to working with Emily as I transform him into an Bi-lingual child. Emily has already provided me with a list of study materials so we can work on over the summer. She's always a step ahead and has his best interest in mind. I'm so happy to have found her on thumbtack and would recommend her for any job, big or small.

Emily was a great tutor for my 14 yr old daughter who was cramming for a chinese exam ag UN I nternational School. She was prepared before hand with what resources were needed and the exact level of instruction my daughter needed for exam. She was on
time and flexible with scheduling, very positive and encouraging, and serious about accomplishing sucess.

Emily is helping me with conversational Chinese in a particularly specialized subject--the medical humanities, and she takes a lot of effort to understand my subject alongside me. She's always on time and present during our sessions. She also gave me a free trial session, which I really appreciate, and is always both professional and friendly. Since we mostly practice conversational skills, I have no personal experience with her teaching writing and listening. I do, however, believe that she is good at what she does, and encourage others to seek her out.
