I hold a MS in Statistics and a BS in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have more than ten years of tutoring experience and have worked with students at the high school, colllege, and graduate levels. I have also served as a Teaching Assistant for university-level math courses.
The main high-school topics I work with are AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics, and AP Precalculus. I also tutor Algebra I-II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and competition math, including AMC prep. I work with students who need to strengthen their foundations, keep pace in a challenging course, prep for an exam, or develop a deeper understanding.
My teaching is conceptual and interactive. Rather than asking students to memorize disconnected procedures, I explain why methods work and how main ideas fit together. I break difficult material into manageable steps and use graphs, examples, and simulations when necessary to clarify concepts. I also ask students questions and give them opportunities to work through problems and increase confidence and independence.
At the college and graduate levels, I tutor calculus-based probability and statistics, mathematical statistics, econometrics, finite and discrete mathematics, business mathematics, game theory, and material for actuarial Exam P. I also help students and working professionals with applied statistics and data analysis in R/RStudio/RMarkdown, SPSS, and Excel, including regression, hypothesis testing, statistical modeling, visualization, and optimization using Excel Solver.
I live near Zabar’s on the Upper West Side and tutor in person throughout Manhattan and northern Brooklyn, generally at a library, Barnes and Noble, coffee shop, or the student’s home. I also tutor online through Zoom, using screen-sharing, a shared whiteboard, and screen control when necessary. Before the first lesson, a brief conversation can help us identify the course, current material, goals, and most useful lesson format.
