Introduction: ***currently only teaching remotely!! But working in-person for events <3*** Angie Pastor is a New York based vocalist, guitarist, composer, and educator! You will find information on her teaching business AND her music performance business below: Teaching- When I was a kid, I struggled a lot to learn in a traditional classroom setting. I didn't understand why I had to sit still and why I wasn't allowed to make my own schedule and explore my own interests. It was so hard for me to focus on subjects that I didn't enjoy and to sit still for a long period of time. As an adult, I realized how much I would've benefitted from a teacher that would take the time to teach me in a way my brain could understand. Someone who cared about MY interests and passions and would use that information to engage me in subjects I wasn't as crazy about. Someone who could be patient and creative and who believed in me! I ended up becoming the type of teacher I always needed as a kid. I care about my students and their individual paths and truly believe that we all have our own unique way of learning! For the last 5 years, I’ve been teaching music to children AND adults of all ages. I've worked in a couple of different music schools as well as my own private lessons teaching piano, guitar, and vocal training. I teach my students to write music using the skills they already had while also developing new ones. I’ve found songwriting to be not only an amazing tool for my own life, but to be an amazing way for children to express their feelings and use their imagination and creativity. With my extensive experience in music, songwriting and music education, i've found that I have the expertise to teach reading, writing, and speech. I have studied vocal technique and songwriting for the last 10 years. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from The City College of New York in June of 2022. Music performance- Angie Pastor performs all throughout NYC at various venues including restaurants, coffee shops, jazz clubs, and other music clubs! She loves to play weddings and private parties with various sized bands depending on what the client is looking for. She plays many genres including jazz, pop, folk, & rock :) Angie Pastor's love language is songwriting. through undeniably raw lyrics, Angie uses songwriting to take you along with her on the journey of growth and learning all that it means to find ourselves. Her music encapsulates love- as she falls and picks herself back up over and over again. Angie is influenced heavily by jazz and folk music. She was raised listening to Norah Jones, Nat King Cole, Alison Krauss, Carole King, and countless others. It was those artists that showed her the passion and vulnerability that you will find in her music today.

Angie (vocals), Fima (piano) and Luc (double bass) played for us at a family 50th birthday party in the Hamptons this summer. Angie responded quickly to my initial request for a quote and was equally responsive and flexible in deciding how many/which types of musicians to choose. We were a mixed age family group from 15-89 with differing musical tastes and Angie worked with me to add some extra songs into their jazz standard set list. The additions included: Mr. Bo Jangles – Nina Simone In my life - Beatles Tiny Dancer – Elton John Fallin’ for you – Colbie Calait English Rose – Paul Weller Valerie – Amy Whitehouse Always on my mind – Michael Buble Can’t help falling in love – Elvis I wanna dance with someone – Whitney Can’t take my eyes off of you – Frankie Valli Just the way you are – Billy Joel The trio also performed a variety of jazz standards, which we also loved. Angie has a very pretty voice; Luc slaps the bass with style; and the two pianists in my family were blown away by Fima’s virtuosity. Together, the three musicians work so well together and obviously have so much fun “working”. Their enjoyment is infectious. We absolutely loved the performance and didn’t want them to go home. It made the birthday weekend having them with us. The trio traveled miles to perform for us. I’m sure they had a 12H day to play for 4H. They arrived right on time and were just a delight. Friendly and engaging people, chatting in their breaks to all the musicians in my family, and above all, they are wonderful musicians. I cannot recommend them highly enough and hope that we have occasion to engage them again. From conversation with Angie, I know that they perform in different combinations of musicians and instruments. We had a trio of vocals, piano and bass and it was a lovely performance at home in an intimate space. In a larger venue, maybe you would add percussion and guitar, but honestly, the three of them are pretty perfect on their own! My aim was to surprise my brother for his birthday and the rest of my family - and the look on their faces when a taxi pulled up with a double bass in it was a picture. By the end of the evening, we were all dancing, singing, and joining in. The sight of my parents, who are in their late 80s and in frail health, dancing together to “Just the Way You Are” will remain a treasured memory. Thank you, Angie, Fima, and Luc for a magical evening.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer discounts for virtual lessons! The fee is discounted by $10 regardless of which lesson length the customer has picked.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Whether I’ve been hired as an event musician, a music teacher, or a songwriter, I always want to have a phone call with the client as a starting point! I like to make sure I have all the information I need to best do the job I’ve been hired for and of course answer all of the clients questions. In addition to a phone call, I am happy to provide free samples of my work. If I’m hired for a wedding or private party, lots of customers like to hear demos of their favorite songs before hand and I’m always happy to provide!
