Welcome to Flower City Letters! I'm Elaina DeBoard, a calligrapher and engraver based in The Flower City of Rochester, NY (but happy and able to do work remotely for any location). With over six years of experience, training from top calligraphers around the world, and 100+ happy clients, I have the ability and passion to create connection through the written word for you. Calligraphy adds warmth and intimacy to gifts, weddings, and branding events - feelings that can only come from something created by hand with care. From envelope addressing to long-form art pieces like wedding vows, love letters, and family trees, I can enhance your thoughtful words with beautiful, handwritten script. Flower City Letters can personalize almost anything in calligraphy. From engraving on glass and metal, many surfaces can be personalized! Flower City Letters has done amazing work for all of my friends. I have recieved several invitations in the mail from her work and it is immediately recognizable for its intense beauty. The front work is spectacular and unparralel with others. You cannot find anyone else who will pay attention to detail like Elaina will. She will listen to every detail you ask for. Take the time on your project and make sure it is exactly what you are looking for. Every item is presenting in just glorious fashion that you want to frame it. I cannot wait to use her for every new piece and I often find myself searching for projects and excuses to need new work done. Much love and respect!

Elaina of Flower City Letters did such a fantastic job on my envelopes for wedding save the dates and invitations. Our wedding was Star Trek themed and Elaina came up with a brilliant space-themed design for the envelopes. So many people complimented on how beautiful they were! Some friends said they were the most stunning piece of mail they've ever received. Because Elaina is a designer, she also helped us with creating our Star Trek Padd invitations and RSVPs. I gave her the text for each in a Word doc and images to work with, and she just made it happen. Elaina also thought to ask questions I never would have thought of: What stamps are you using? Do you want an envelope for yourself as a keepsake? Elaina made sure her envelope design fit with our larger Star Trek stamps and suggested putting the return address labels on the back so she would have more of a canvas to work with. Lastly, I'm so glad she suggested she make an extra one just for us. It's currently sitting in my wedding memento box that I will have forever (something to bust out on anniversaries and show my future children!). She was such a big part of bringing our Trekkie theme to life and I couldn't be happier with the how everything turned out. Check out the photos below of her awesome work!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
When quoting a project, I make sure to include any possible add-on options so the customer knows the extend of what a project can cost. Calligraphy projects are quoted on a project to project basis depending on complexity, quantity, and timeline.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Discuss with the client their vision for the project and get specifics on timeline, quantity, colors, etc. I provide a quote for review. Once content has been approved, I complete the calligraphy or engraving.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I regularly take calligraphy and engraving classes to continue to improve and offer more with my craft. A full list of my training can be found on my website.
