Hired on Thumbtack

I am very unhappy with Eric at Ecolandwerks Landscaping. He never relayed to his workers what all I wanted done and he never stopped over after they were done to check out their work himself. Even after I called and let him know how unhappy I was...he didn't insist on coming over to see the quality of their work. Hummmm...but he didn't have any trouble cashing my check! Since it was the first mow of the season...they were suppose to pick up limbs and sticks and put them on the burn pile. Some got to the burn pile but a lot are still laying on the yard and in piles under the trees where they threw them. The grass was getting tall...the back yard is just piles and clumps of cut grass. They were suppose to bag it...but told me they had ran out of gas...so the back yard looks horrible!! It usually took me about 2 hours to mow my 1 1/2 acres. Over the phone, Eric gave me a first time discount...I paid him $100 for 4 hours (2 guys at $30/guy/hour). At first glance, the front yard...the work looked okay. I wanted to make sure the 2 guys who actually did the work...got paid for doing it so I added $10 per guy tip on the $100...so all in all...I paid $120 for a horrible, horrible mowing job.
Ecolandwerks Landscaping and Contracting's reply
In response to Marsha J. I stood in her kitchen talking in front of my foreman and her telling both of us exactly what she wanted done. As a normal professional I have a very busy schedule and she also gave my crew tips for the good jobs that they did. My interpretation of what she did was to say that she was immediately happy with the work after she had given my crew tips. She told me that she did not want me to come over when she talked to me and did not give me a chance to correct the situation. I would have gladly returned the money if I knew she wasn't very happy, but she confused me terribly. From her communications the back yard we mowed the grass back to the field where the horses were and she said we could leave it the way we talked about. When I looked at the grass that was there I told her it might need extra help, but she said it would be OK. We spent time picking up her sticks so that we could make her yard look nice. There were lots of sticks. My foreman said that there were just a few left in the yard and that would not be a problem after he pointed it out to her. My rates are $30/crew manhour. 2 guys for 1 hour. If she would have said to bag the grass we would have done so. We received no instructions to bag the grass. After repairing her mower that we offered to repair, in this time frame her mower which was used to cut the grass in the back yard and hard a difficult time using used up any gas that we had brought along extra to mow every part of her yard. Her mower, which she wanted me to fix, so that she could try to get someone in her family to use to cut her lawn. was difficult at best to get going and used most of the gas in my gas can. My foreman who can fix many different pieces of equipment had a difficult time fixing her mower which took some time just to try to get going over an hour. There was serious problems with the steering on her machine that we did not have all the tools to fix. I'll leave it up to you. We are professionals. Who care very much about our clients and will bend over backwards for them. She gave my crew tips for the work done and my foreman stood in the kitchen listening to her requests. If you are unhappy with our work please let us come back to correct the problem and restore you to where you were before you met us. I told Marsha J. that if there is a problem that we would fix it to her level of satisfaction, which Marsha J refused. I know that when my foreman is in the same room as I am listening to the client as she explains what she wants done this reduces the communication problems one might have.

Ecolandwerks did a great job on our shrub removal. The job, which I anticipated taking 4-5 hours took Eric 90 minutes. The shrub removal (20 shrubs) with haul away service was 75% less expensive than local landscapers that quoted the same job. Would highly recommend.

Eric was hired to cut and trim the front lawn (very large yard) and I could not be happier. Great communication, very good job and very fair price!! I have recommended him to several friends!
