Hello, my name is Gib ----- and I am a U.S. Chess Federation certified coach. I offer online classes to those who want to learn or improve their game. After years of playing on the competitive chess circuit, I changed my focus. I wanted to ensure future generations could understand & love the game that has played such a significant role in my life.
Since I was very young I've had a knack for chess and other board games. My diagnosis as being on the Autism spectrum confirmed that I had the perfect brain for this game & that this was the life for me.
While I have coached people of all age and skill levels my primary focus has been working with young adults in middle school and high school. I also love working with senior citizens.
I teach everything from basic movements and rules to advanced strategy. My coaching caters to the skill set of the student and adapts as the student advances. My love of the game and my love of introducing people to the game allows me to be patient, analytical, and fueled by joy.

Gib is a great teacher and a super friendly guy! I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get better at chess.
After playing a game and chatting for a bit he pinpointed my weaknesses, explained them clearly, and recommended a set of exercises that focused my practice time. He also taught me how to analyze my own games and learn from my (and my opponent's) mistakes which is a lot harder than I thought, but is an invaluable skill. Thanks Gib!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
You can get a discount by signing up for one of the package lessons. Sign up for five(5) lessons and get a 6th one for free. If you have questions about that/those feel free to ask.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My first step is to evaluate you by playing a game of chess. I do this so that I can see where you are already strong and also where you need some guidance. If you are a brand new player I will start by teaching you the basics, and then we will start doing games at a rate that fits your skill level.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am certified as a chess coach by the US Chess Federation.
