FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Most of the prices I give my clients are for bids and bids can change depending on how big the job is and what the client wants. I charge $72 / hour and I mark up materials by 20%, which is all pretty standard.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Every client and every job is different. But usually, after I get a phone call or email from a client, I try to meet with them the same or next day to discuss the job. I will take notes and measurements and then over the next day or so, I will look up material prices and estimate the labor to create a bid proposal.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I don't think there is any better education or training for building than just doing it yourself. I built the house that I live in today and that taught me many of the building skills I use on a daily basis. But being a contractor isn't just about building. One thing my bachelor's degree was good for was preparing me for all the paperwork and email side of things.
