How did you get started doing this type of work?
I can't imagine doing anything else. This is what I am here to do. It brings me joy, and I love a challenge.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've done a multitude of projects for clients over the years. I specialize in children's book illustration, but enjoy taking on all kinds of specialized commissions. I've done logos, invitations, anatomical animal drawings, pet portraits, baby name paintings and even watch-part steam-punk pendants.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
The last project I did through a Thumbtack lead was quite interesting and challenging for me. I'm very familiar with painting animals, but this project was anatomical horse illustrations. They needed to be extremely precise, on a medical level. I'm more used to creative projects involving lots of whimsey. I think they came out quite beautiful, and my client was extremely happy as well.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be very specific about the scope of your project. Do you just need a piece of artwork? Do you need it scanned? If so - in what format/s do you want the files in? Does this artist need to provide any text with your image? etc... With Thumbtack, it costs the artist money just to be in touch with the client to ask a simple question - so please be as thorough as you can in order to find the right person for your project.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I really love what I do, and I usually make a point to research the subject matter I'm working with. An example of this is that a client recently hired me to do a painting of Buddha. I'm going to attend a meditation service next week to gain some insight on this painting. I've never set foot in a Buddhist Temple and am glad to have a reason to.
