My online courses go above and beyond typical writing tutoring to provide an actual college experience. I have been teaching writing on the college level for almost 20 years and my courses are designed to mirror those I have created for online college instruction. They allow for the flexibility of an asynchronous format while offering the option of live meetings. These courses can benefit the student just beginning their experience with college writing, upperclassmen looking for a refresher or non-traditional students starting back to school after a break. They can also be helpful for anyone looking to improve their basic writing skills. By approaching each student as an individual with specific needs, I help them feel at ease and encouraged.
More About Courses
Some of the key features of my courses include:
- A variety of readings that include informational resources on skills of
focus as well as others that express thoughts and opinions intended
to allow for students to engage with the ideas of others.
- Video lectures, which walk students through the important concepts
of the course through visual presentations with instructor
commentary.
- Assignments designed to help students practice the various skills as
they are introduced that include personalized written feedback.
Considerations have also been taken for accessibility of course resources such as PDF versions of video lectures that include transcript notes.
More About Me
In addition to my teaching experience, I have also helped create curriculum for an award-winning university first-year writing program. The design of my courses is informed by what I learned working in collaboration with other instructors and administrators about writing program standards as well as the best way to present information to students in order for them to have positive writing experiences with successful outcomes. I have also participated in university programs that support and prepare students from underprivileged school systems and others for all new students in adjusting to the college experience.
