FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
-A portion of all proceeds is donated to charity- I provide three different flat-rate tuning/servicing appointments. These appointments are designed for the most common situations I regularly see. BASIC TUNING SERVICE - $145 Who it's for: • Pianos that have been regularly serviced within the past year and are near concert pitch (A=440) • Pianos that are not experiencing issues such as sticking keys, broken pedals, etc. What's Included: • Fine Tuning • Light Cleaning If your piano has been regularly maintained and serviced within the last 6 months, then the Basic Tuning Service might be the best choice for you. TUNING & SEASONAL SERVICE - $200 Who it's for: • Pianos that have not been fully serviced within the past 2-5 years. • Pianos that have been recently moved • Pianos that have some issues such as sticking keys, harsh tone, broken pedals, etc. What's Included: • Bringing the piano up to Concert Pitch (Sometimes called Pitch-Raising or Double Tuning) • Fine Tuning • Light Cleaning • Fix Sticking Keys and Reduce Friction in the Action • Touch-up Voicing (to improve the piano's tone) • Touch-up Regulation (to make the piano easier to play) OVERHAUL SERVICE - $600 If your piano hasn't been serviced in many years, it will need a bit more than just tuning to get it back in shape. After many, many years without servicing not only will the piano be very out of tune, but it will also develop many other issues within the piano that needs to be addressed, such as very worn out hammers, the action shifting out of alignment, and lots of gunk and debris build-up inside the piano. Oftentimes, Facebook or Craigslist "Free" pianos fall into this category and require several tuning passes, along with a deep cleaning, regulation, and voicing of the piano. What's Included: • Multiple tuning passes to bring the piano up to pitch • Fine-tuning • Deep cleaning of the piano including vacuuming and polishing the strings • Fixing sticking and broken keys • Sanding down the piano hammers to eliminate grooving and remove rotted felt • Regulating the piano action to make it play smoothly and controllably
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once you've reached out to me, the first step is to find out which appointment is best for you. I tailor my Tuning & Seasonal Service appointments to each client's individual needs as well as how their piano is used. For example, a piano that’s used for recordings will have different needs than a piano that’s used casually at home. Once we’ve found the best service for you, the next step is to schedule the appointment. I’ll typically ask what days of the week are best for you, and then look at my schedule and send some potential times that might work for both of us. I also have an online scheduler on my website as well. Once your appointment time has been set, the last step is for me to come and service your piano, and then you can enjoy it as never before!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As both a lifelong musician (I've been playing piano since 7 and I also perform professionally as a classical vocalist)and a Master Piano Technician, my expertise helps fellow pianists get the most out of their instruments. In addition to my training through the Piano Technicians Academy and Master Piano Technicians of America, I also studied Vocal Performance and Composition at California Institute of the Arts, Willamette University, and was recognized as a California Arts Scholar. I began to play piano at the age of seven and loved it since day one. Growing up, my parents actually had to ban me from the piano bench before school so we would get to class on time! Every time my parents would have a piano tuner over to service our Everett piano, I would watch intently and try to figure out what was going on. I've always loved figuring out how things worked, so there was a strong natural draw to piano technology. Throughout my high school days, I studied piano tuning and repair before attending and being certified through the Piano Technicians Academy. I founded LeGrand Piano Services in 2012 and have faithfully served the community ever since. I believe that music is an essential part of life and that the work I do helps to keep the music alive.
