Introduction: In the last 20 years, I've helped singers in all musical styles find and develop and build their unique voices. I make learning solid technique fun and exciting, all in the service of full expression - whatever your artistic goals! As a teacher, I draw on my unique background as an international performer with 20 years of performing and teaching experience. Together we'll get to the heart of what is most important to you as an artist, while building and defining solid technical tools for optimal performance. Whether in classical music, musical theater, pop or gospel, I'll help you develop and maintain your unique voice. I believe the goal of healthy technique is to allow you full freedom to bring your artistry to others. This isn’t technique “just for technique’s sake." It's a solid foundation for singing that allows you to fully express yourself. My passion is helping performers of all ages, levels, and backgrounds express their individual artistry. I love seeing students’ confidence soar as they learn tools they can trust to help them say what they want to say as singers. I write and sing my own songs and found myself training so much on my own that I knew I needed professional help. Markus is a godsend. He is knowledgable, passionate, kind, patient, and tirelessly on your side. He is very sensitive to your particular set of needs, and in our first meeting listened open-heartedly to what I wanted and needed from this. Going through exercises and songs, he has helped me hear myself, identifying where I am working harder than I need to, showing me how to draw power from breath (from my roots!), and using his many years of experience to pin-point every moment where a slight alteration could help bring out an improved sound. We talk about mouth shape, tongue placement, breath placement, and he always meets my excitement in answering any question that comes up. He is always careful not to affect my personal style and eager to help me more impactfully convey it. I also want to emphasize to any ladies out there doubting whether a male teacher could be the right fit, don't worry over it for a minute longer. Markus is amazing (and can sing higher than I can!) I look forward to my lessons with him and always leave enlivened, smiling, and energized.

Wow, do I love working with Markus Beam! I am a singer who has experience with voice lessons, but I had gotten away from them in recent years. The amazing thing about Markus is that beyond the technical expertise (which he has in abundance, more on that below), he has this empathic ability to locate and connect you to your SOURCE. I've never felt so free and connected to my singing. As for his technical expertise: I feel like I have always struggled with a few glitches in my voice, they've always bothered me, and made me a bit anxious about singing. But Markus, through exercises and song-work, helped me zero in on those glitches and, without obsessing over them (which can make them worse), we found technical solutions that are, strangely, so simple and organic to myself. His style doesn't feel rigid or rote, it feels personal--he has a big heart and, just in terms of value, the GOODS. I highly recommend him.

When I first started with Markus in January of 2018, I had little professional vocal training and had a very under developed technique. In only a few lessons, I have seen a dramatic improvement both in how I sing as well as how I sound. Through guided lessons, I have been able to sing higher and sustain pitches longer than I ever have before, as well as develop a natural vibrato which is something I previously thought was impossible for me to attain. He is extremely kind and patient with his students, which is very crucial as it lets the student feel comfortable and not hold back sound or energy. By fostering an encouraging and positive space, mistakes are turned into learning opportunities and he will point out both things you are doing right as well as things that need minor tweaking. It is very obvious that he knows what he is doing and knows how to help students develop their own technique by offering tips and strategies for producing their best sound. I have been very happy with the progress I have made in such a short time, and would recommend him to anyone who is serious about improving their singing, as well as to seasoned singers who are looking for a way to keep their edge. Two thumbs up!
