Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: We are currently working on new construction homes on the New Jersey Coast that were damaged by Hurricane Sandy. With a personal experience from the hurricane, I found this as an opportunity to expand my business and help those who lost everything by sharing similar experiences. Many customers feel that it's comforting knowing that even though I am the contractor, at the end of the day, I have to repair my house as well. Other projects are located in the Philadelphia area such as additions, roofing, siding, and windows.

I hired Jim to reconfigure an oddly-shaped closet in a bedroom into a linen closet accessible from the hallway. I purchased the "new" door from a salvage company to fit the space. He was responsible for creating the frame, installing and trimming the door, and installing cedar shelving. And completing two other small jobs. Estimate: $1500 His communication was prompt and courteous. He came out to see the project before creating an estimate, as was my preference given the task. Initial framing, trim, and installation of the door were fine. As were the two smaller projects. However, the finish work demonstrated carelessness: - He failed to use the template included with the doorknob to measure before cutting a knob opening in the one-of-a-kind solid wood door. So the turning mechanism couldn't fit. (I installed a ball latch, asked that the plug be replaced so that I can install a true dummy knob.) - He did not sand the exposed edge of the 1/4" cedar plywood shelves. I would have balked at the choice of 1/4" shelves, but I can have those fixed later. - He left a very noticeable scorch mark on the original top-nail oak hardwood floor inside the closet. - Plaster demolition is certainly a messy affair, but the mess could have been contained by closing doors and using a plastic sheet. I spent a lot of time cleaning plaster and sawdust that spread through the house. He acknowledged the mistake with the doorknob and did consult with a locksmith on remedies. I chose my remedy as the more elegant solution. He is a nice guy, but never apologized for scorching the floor when I brought it up. I think that is just bad manners and unprofessional. He adjusted the price down $100, ultimately.

James is a brilliant, down to earth guy who clearly explained everything that was needed to complete the project. I really appreciated him communicating the challenges, options, and alternatives taking into consideration the budget I had set for the project. James is a trustworthy guy who performs quality work and simply gets the job done. Absolutely will recommend James to my fellow neighbors who's looking to get some carpentry work completed.

I hired Mr. Kerfoot to install a firewood shed 4x8x10 to provide shelter for seasoning wood for $850. I reviewed and approved plans before starting the project. Due to inclement weather project took longer than planned and the shed height needed adjustment, which he fixed. Overall the project met our needs. Mr. Kerfoot was professional, respectful and skillful. His pricing was better than the others. I would recommend him to others with similar needs.
