It's been great working with Stephen. He adds a lot of of knowledge that you don't get without working with someone who's fluent.Jun 4, 2020Verified

Stephen is great. He easily assessed exactly where I was and met me there. We even read a fairy tale during our second tutoring session and I didn't do half bad. So excited to keep growing my knowledge of the German Language!Aug 17, 2018Verified

Stephen has been very patient with my teen son, and his teaching format keeps my son engaged and learning at a good pace. My son is interested in being an exchange student and perhaps attending university in Germany, and we appreciate how much Stephen teaches about culture and everyday German usage as part of the curriculum.Jul 19, 2018Verified

I have been working with Mr. Griggs for a week, and I already have a better understanding of German grammar! I do a lot of independent study, and he is a great resource to me to answer my questions. The book he teaches out of is very interesting, and I have found myself looking through the vocabulary pages for fun. Very knowledgeable teacher, and I am impressed with our time together so far. I am looking forward to learning more - the quality and affordability is worth it!!Apr 30, 2018Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My tuition fee is $20 per hour if the lessons are twice per week. I also offer three lessons per week at $17 each and four lessons per week at $15 for each. The cost of the Deutsch Aktuell text for German, used but in good condition from Amazon, is about $10.00 including shipping. The Latin text is about the same.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I engage my German clients in practical conversation by bouncing off of dialogs and stories from materials that I send and from an excellent textbook that is full of other resources as well. My focus in Latin is entirely on reading and translating passages about daily life or familiar folktales and mythology.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a BA in German and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching. Besides having lived and worked in Germany, I have taught either German or Latin or both for the last 30 years.
