We have been using daycare 4-5 times a week for our Bichon Brady for about a month. Kendra the owner and her staff are wonderful knowledgeable animal lovers. They all answer any and all questions and helped us work through Brady thinking he is the alpha dog. They took the time to educate us and work with Brady while in their care so he is now a more well adjusted puppy. Brady loves going to daycare and comes home exhausted but most of all happy. We recently used their grooming service and Karen did a wonderful job. Brady was clean, cut to our exact specifications and well cared for with her. I would recommend that anyone looking for daycare, grooming or training that they come to Alpha Dog. It's simply an amazing place.

I have been taking my dog to Alpha for 9 months. There are two sides to this story. First is my dog's. He seems to have a good time. He's tired when he gets home which is great especially when I need to get work done at home. Second is mine. Overall, my experience with them has been extremely disappointing. Grooming: Overpriced and they don't do a great job cutting hair. They offer these different scent packages. The few I've chosen have made my dog stink worse than when I dropped him off. However, it is a convenience, I suppose. Customer service: About 5 months ago, they called and told to pick him up because he had diarrhea. When I got there, girl # 1 (who had quite the attitude) charged me for a full day (he had only been there not quite 2 hours). Just as girl # 1 gave me my credit card back, girl # 2 at the desk tells me that I don't owe anything because I had a credit. Apparently they had been overcharging me and no one noticed until then. But of course, this girl # 1 JUST charged me (and I paid) full price. Next, he was in one of their large crates. I noticed the floor beneath him was a bit shiny. Girl # 1 lets him out, he runs over, jumps up and gets pee all over me. They left him there and was forced to relieve himself and did nothing to clean it up. Needless to say I was done. My boyfriend told me to give them another chance. I did. I gave them many. I won't get into the others. But, I am DONE giving them chances. I very rarely write bad reviews. But I highly recommend going elsewhere with your dog. There are other places with more reasonable prices and offer a way better experience for you and your dog.
Alpha Dog Center's reply
With responding to this review everyone is entitled to their opinions -- But the day [Member Name Removed] is referring to was a day her dog was not excepted into the daycare program because vaccines were expired. As for the rest of the comments she has used us multiple times, ALL without a complaint. Then AGAIN came in after this review and we asked about how to make our services better for her after reading her review and she told us "I was just having a bad day that day" - So I feel this is a direct insult to the business and staff who work their tails off to accommodate everyone with ALL the best intentions, love and knowledge we can. We treat every dog like it is our own, we have A LOT of rules and regulations to ensure the safety and trust of our valued guest. We in no way would leave a dog in a kennel with urine around him -- or do a hair cut the same way if she didn't like it -- we are VERY honest and up front with our clients and that's what we thrive on -- Honesty - We are looking out for every dog in our pack, vaccines, cleanliness, and honesty has made us successful for the last 6 years, opinions are one thing, but please come find out for yourselves if all the other reviews on here are wrong --- Thank you

I enrolled my 4 month old boxer puppy in what I was told was their "puppy" training but it ends up it was a class of nine dogs of all ages and with different social issues. There was no socialization allowed. The instructor (owner) was cold and militant. During the training she yelled at me a few times to continue to walk (during the 2nd class) with my puppy around a room even though he was choking himself, gagging and frothing at the mouth. I was only giving him a break. She kept demanding that I shorten the leash and keep walking! His front feet weren't even on the floor! This seemed pretty severe to me. When I got home he had a red mark on his neck where he had been pulling. All her other philosophies seemed just as severe to me so I asked for a refund for the remaining classes. I would have understood if they could only reimburse half of them. But the front staff "Jess" was unbelievably rude. I had met her in person a few times and she was super sweet but when I explained my issues with the class she came at me like an wild animal (I wish I was exaggerating). Seriously. "What are you going to do when he's seven months old and pulls you down the road? Would you let you're little girl do whatever she wanted? If you want socialization you have to pay for our daycare." What?! And this was just a small snip-it of the verbal lashing she dished out. I told her I was shocked that she was treating me this way when I was told this was a "puppy" class. Not boot camp. She would not let up on the badgering. And ultimately told me she could not refund any of the course fee just because I didn't like their philosophy - which she also kept telling me was the only way my puppy would become an accepted dog in doggie society. I am still in total shock at how I was treated. I am thankful in a way that I found out the kind of people who are employed there and am relieved not to be associated with them. What a horrible, horrible experience. If you could have seen the way they treated the dogs in that class you'd never board your dog there or use their daycare. And I love Cesar Millan so I'm not against tough love but this was different and just didn't feel right. If you feel your dog is an object who you want to be the lowest thing on the totem pole in your family then go for it. If you want a friend and companion then go somewhere else.

Responding to this review -- First off We don't offer a "Puppy" class we offer Basic Obedience and Behavior modification which is posted on our website, and in our center and also explained what is expected in class when a client calls for information . Yes we absolutely don't allow socializing in a training class -- there are dogs with ALL sorts of issues as stated up top -- some of those dogs are fearful aggressive which needs proper socializing from a distance. (in this particular class) Second of all what is expected in class and how we train is explained. High expectations are held in the class and we use POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT - clicker training -- so this cold "militant" way is absurd, having high expectations and making sure everyone gets their 150$ worth of information and training is a priority to everyone in the class. Having a puppy play with whoever they want only disrupts the class and takes the focus away from the "training" part of class. It also puts other dogs in danger as well as themselves. This is not a play time -- We offer Daycare -- which this client Temp Tested previously for and tested positive for Giardia and couldn't participate in the daycare aspect, so then chose to get into a class. So to claim that she didn't know or was "shocked" she had to pay for daycare separately is also a false claim. No one in this class signed up for a basic obedience class to socialize with playing. As for the choking and gagging claim -- that was on the client - The Boxer was used for an example for sitting and focus work, as to which the puppy was typical and was excited and jumping at first and with the trainer ignoring the puppy he finally sat and did the command, and was rewarded for it. This client - the owner of the puppy was the one dragging her puppy around and caused the red mark on his neck. This dog left the class early because she was told to hold the leash closer to her, and not out at the end of a 6 foot leash with other reactive dogs around. When in our training classes we have rehabilitated hundreds of dogs, we are very clear as to what is expected and we also explain it to clients when they come to sign up for the classes. We have NEVER had a fight in our facility, in any aspect of our services, and there is a reason for it -- we have rules for the safety of the staff and dogs. It is obvious that this client didn't like what she was being told in the class, but there are 9 others in the class who are happy and determined to get what they are looking for out of their dogs while being in the training class. And has actually asked to get the other dogs in their families into a training class. As for the comment about having your dog being the "lowest thing" on the totem pole, she can take it as she thinks. Dogs are animals, and in our eyes family members - as in humans, come first then your dog - as an animal, comes last - just like a dog sees it in their eyes. They look for a hierarchy, and to put your dog above your Human family members is not doing the dog any justice. We LOVE our dogs, and our clients dogs and only want the best for all of them, big or small, young or old, they are all treated the same. We know we will never make every customer happy, but we try as hard as we can, and we have successfully done it for 8 years. Everyone can have their opinions, but our training methods have successfully helped thousands of dogs, and has changed many peoples lives.

I have been soo happy with the customer service and care that has been provided to me and my Mister Haven from Alpha dog. I was needing doggie sitting and a few of my friends mentioned to me that Alpha dog was the way to go. I usually do not trust places with my dog because of past experiences we have been through. I decided to try it. Haven was for the first time ever not fighting with me to leave the car and began walking in tail wagging and all. This made me so happy, I began bringing him more and more, even just driving by to say hello. The workers there became more than that to us, they became close friends who love seeing Haven and that made me really happy. Alpha dog will be a place I will keep going to and will advise my friends to go to if they ever need anything grooming, sitting, or training. I am not only one satisfied customer, I am proud to say I have found a good home away from home for my boy Haven.

I have been a very active customer of Alpha Dog for 4 years now, we were introduced through a friend when we purchased our 4 month old Female German Shepherd. We have used all services that Alpha Dog provides and have been more then happy with each service (Training, Daycare, Grooming, Food) Kendra (Owner and Trainer) has played an huge role in the proper training and behavior of our dogs (We now own 3). Kendra will tell you from day one that her training style is done in a military manner. She takes her job very seriously in order to product well socialized, well mannered, and well adapted dogs who can handle being out in society. I have seen some reviews on these sites that "complain" about Kendra and the staff of Alpha Dog and their "Military/Black and White" ways. For me and my dogs Military/Black and White is what I want. I want dogs that respect me and respect others, I want my dogs to be safe and controlled while in public, I want others to be able to enjoy my dogs without them being any danger to others. I have recommended Kendra and Alpha Dog to numerous people, but I always say right off the bat that they always SAY IT LIKE IT IS. They in no way sugar coat anything, because they want to be 100% up front and honest with you. What a lot of people don't know about Kendra and Alpha Dog is that this business isn't all they do, they travel to many animal shelters and offer donated time to help rehabilitate shelter dogs. They have seen the worst of the worst, they have seen what owners have caused by lack of proper socializing and training. All these thrown away dogs are what drives these girls to conduct Alpha Dog the way that they do. I have nothing but fantastic things to say about Alpha Dog, if you want a well trained, socialized, and adapted member of your family then Alpha Dog is the place for you. If you would like to have a puppy/dog that is off the wall and out of control, but you do not want to take any advice from a Certified/Award Winning trainer, then perhaps this is not the place for you.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You want to make sure you get to know the people watching your dogs. You should trust them and they should have some kind of background in taking care of dogs/animals besides their own. Especially the owner of the facility. Dogs need a responsible and knowledgeable care taker. After all dogs are peoples children too. ask yourself: Would you leave your child with some one who has never taken care of children before??
