It was a pleasure to work with Neal and his team! The team completed the job with great care and professionalism in a really short time. Neal was great at communicating his plans all along and asking for my opinions. I recommend working with Joyce's Painting for they offer quality work, competitive prices, and a reliable team!

Neal was incredibly responsive, efficient and did an EXCELLENT job painting numerous rooms and ceilings in our old house (including bedrooms, bathrooms, living room and kitchen). He made this project very easy for us and we are thrilled with the results! I would definitely recommend Neal and his painting services.

Let's just say that you get what you pay for. Neal is very nice and personable and offered the best deal out of the 3 people we contacted. However, it was too good to be true. Before the job started, he would follow up through Thumbtack, email, and call. I initially thought that this was a good sign and appreciated that he was persistent and attentive, but a little goes a long way. I have a 2 story colonial that was going from all white to dutch blue with cream accents. Before starting, we settled on terms and a price. A part of the terms where that he would scrape off the old paint that was flaking or buckling, including the porch, columns, and masonry along the base. While the house is painted 'ok', he and some of his crew were VERY sloppy. This was disappointing because as a professional, I expected a tighter job. The lines (where 2 colors met) and detail work (around the windows and doors) was a hot mess. I had new windows put in last year and they were wrapped in white aluminum. They got blue paint on most of them, got paint on all of the utility boxes, on the new windows and screens, door screens, and paint drops on my newly laid brick patio in the back. Because of my landscaping and garden, I had asked that he put drop cloths all along the perimeter of the house where he would be scraping and painting. Long story short, drop clothes were only put in a few places (mostly where he was doing ladder work). Due to this, he and his workers trampled my herb garden (much of it dead now), there are paint chips (surely lead based) in my gardens and grass, and paint everywhere. When I brought this up, many times the answer was that certain areas are hard to reach so he couldn't see them. Well, my thought is that this is why I hire a "professional" to have the right equipment and know how to figure it out. Also, one should get off the ladder, and look up at what was just done to see how it looks. Novel idea. There is even paint in places that I don't understand, because they weren't in those areas. There was paint on my day lilies (not near the house), paint on my squash plant leaves, chives, garden sculpture, etc. I tried to explain that this is my food, and we eat this, but it didn't sink in. Another huge disappoint is that i had tiki torches around the house and when they moved them, they laid them in one of my garden beds. By the time I realized this, when putting the yard back together, I saw that the torch fuel had leaked into the ground where my Kale, basil and corn is. Now I have to toss this and remediate the soil. And the guys helping. One was his father in law, fine, whatever, but I expect professional painters. As a artist, there are correct ways of painting. But this guy was all over the place. He was just slopping the paint on, not painting with "the grain," used the wrong size brush in many areas and got paint all over the shingles. Besides the sloppiness, I hated that I constantly had to repeat myself, make list, re-assure, and re-assess what they were working on. I and my husband felt like babysitters. There were constant phone calls and texts and I would have to come home during lunch just to make sure things were on track. He was 100% percent concerned with our satisfaction and kept talking about how he wanted a 5 stars rating. But it seems that he wasn't putting the 2 together. When I pay for something, I want it done 100% and don't want to have to deal with it again. Now, we have more work to do than when we started. We have to touch up the whole house (at least within eye level) because the blue didn't cover very well in certain areas. I should have been suspicious because the other painters suggested that I use a Home Depot brand and do 2 coats. Neal suggested a better brand at Sherwin Williams that would only need 1 coat because it had better coverage. This would seem to make sense except that once he started to put it on, we said that it would need 2 coats. He said that we agreed on 1 coat so it was fine. We then let him know that we were willing to pay for the extra coat, but that didn't matter. I then called the paint store, and they confirmed that even though it was a better brand, when going from white to a dark color, this brand requires 2 coats, and as a pro painter, he should have known this. PS, we spent about $1000 in paint alone. Now i wish I went with the Home Depot brand and did coats. We also now have to take the screens out and try to remove the paint, scrap windows, use paint remover on some of the window wrapping, scrub the patio bricks, and touch up the line work. It's not ok that he left us with all of this to do, but he didn't get it and we were ready to part ways. He is a hard worker and definitely did his monies worth. He took on a big job, did a great job getting the chimney (very hard), and is very sweet and personable. Sadly though, I don't feel that I could recommend him to my friends. But if you want a basic job done, he's the guy. So far with Thumbtack, I am 0-3.
