I learned about this dojo through great reviews on Thumbtack. They were a non-profit, martial arts school that offered training in various martial arts, in an authentic atmosphere and a sincere sense of community. This is what got me interested, and I came for a free trial. The positive reviews were true but someone interested in martial arts should come here and experience for themselves to understand the sincerity of this place.I was treated with politeness and respect, and had an amazing first time learning experience. When you step in and spend time there you see why it is a dojo and not a gym from the way students and coaches interact, practices in the dojo to the friendly community they have there. Our Sense Mr. Werth was patient, calm and friendly, even in one class and a couple of conversations I had with him was enough for me to see the dedication he has to this place and the teachings of martial arts and its philosophy as a way of life. This place is like their home where people show respect and care for each other which is something I appreciated. They do not only have self defense classes but meditation and after school care for children, it seems like a place that cares for their students as a whole, contributing to their lives not just on a physical level.I have signed up for more classes and I am looking forward to better myself in every aspect thisbdojo has to offer. I recommend this place to anyone interested in Martial arts or anyone looking for a community to be a part of or bettering themselves to a more peaceful, self disciplined individual. I highly recommend everyone the free trial to experience this place.

The Boston Martial Arts center impresses me with their realistic approach to human conflict, their preference for solving such conflicts in non-violent ways, and their techniques for diffusing situations before they get out of hand. Should the situation get out of hand, their techniques are beyond adequate for self defense and the defense of loved ones, but I appreciate their emphasis on solving problems without violence, if at all possible.

First I went to NEMA to enroll my son on a take in a martial class to make sure he would learn about self defense, and Master Cooper not only teaches that but the most important thing I had forgot, called DISCIPLINE. I was amazed by the way he handle that and have the control on the control over their students. Even I started training MMA and loved the Saturday sparring class. I highly recommend NEMA. Too bad I moved out of state, otherwise my son and I would still there.

Regional Instructor Ben, and the New England wide instructor team, are true devotees to their craft of self-development and simultaneously incredibly attentive and careful teachers of new students like myself. I joined Oom Yung Doe because I needed a practice that grew my inner life through my physical strength, not one or the other. I was a competitive hockey player for fifteen years and nothing has changed my attitude, strengthened my mind, and stimulated me to life so much as my new practice with OYD.

This was an excellent workshop. It was exactly what I was looking for -- a class on self-defense techniques and empowerment for women. Anne made the environment very comfortable and explained things fully. She engaged the class. If Anne offers any follow-up workshops, I will definitely attend.

About

At Emerald Necklace Martial Arts, we embrace martial arts training as a way of life, and teaching effective self-defense techniques is only a part of what we do. Our primary goal is to introduce our members to the philosophies that permeate the martial arts, and to show people how to apply these principles to their everyday lives -- outside of our school and in ways that have very little to do with blocking, kicking, and punching. This, we believe, is the ultimate form of self-defense. Sensei Jason Gould provides traditional martial arts instruction to dojo members, and he is available for consultations and private personal safety and self-defense seminars with individuals and groups.
