My experience was awesome. He came on time and got right to work clearing our yard of unwanted trees. He installed a light too! He also bid on installing a new kitchen floor for me. He will be starting that this weekend. He is very professional and a go getter, I recommend David highly for all many of your household needs.

I asked Mr. Stroman to do some painting, and some repairs in the house. He did an outstanding job for a fair price.

DJ did a WONDERFUL job on my kitchen range hood installation. He needed to do a good bit of customization to make it fit into the outside vent already in my home, and had it all come together for perfect appliance performance! I really enjoyed working with him and will be sure to call him in the future!

Replaced and painted 32" of 10x1" trim and matching chair rail. Patched and painted window sill, installed flashing and patched up a corner section of partial rot, patched another corner trim and re-caulked a window. Used top Quality material. Great job, attention to detail. Very reasonable $.

I appreciated his responsiveness, punctuality, and honesty. I was on a tight timeline, and needed repairs conducted within a small period. I was notified by Sidd within hours of my Thumbtack request. After arriving and looking over the job, he know exactly what needed to be done. He was also able to communicate the need to me in a comprehensible manner. Although he did inform me he didn't know where to obtain a specific part necessary for my window repair, he was able to secure my window in place with no issues (it had fallen out of of the frame, but didn't break). I really just needed to secure the window, at least until I figured out what to do next.

Mr Kendall cut in a side entry door into my garage and put in a step so I could gain easier access into my side yard. He also repaired a leaky roof on my patio room. Mr Kendall was very reasonably priced, prompt and courteous. I would absolutely have him back to do any future repairs and would highly recommend him!

James responded immediately to request for services to install new toilet, install 2 garage sensor lights and , 4 under the counter lights. He was able to give estimate on phone and kept to that price when doing job. He was on time and very diligent working to complete the job. Went above and beyond by doing 2 other extra small projects. Very pleasant personality and tidy worker. Fairly priced. Highly recommend.

Alberto (re-)painted most of the interior of my home, repairing damaged ceilings and walls. Excellent quality work at a reasonable price. Alberto is a pleasure to work with. One minor issue: despite covering the floors, small paint splatters were left behind, as well as dust from sanding the wallboard compound. I would use Nina's Handyman Services again and recommend them.

We were getting our house ready to put on the market to sell. We had a few odds and ends to tighten up to get it back in shape. We were fearful that we would have to hire multiple work crews for each specialized area. After a brief consultation, we were assured that they could do it all. Boy did they deliver! From refinishing walls, to paint, to exterior trim, they repaired and refinished all of our requests and even gave advice on things we had not even thought of. With both me and my wife working full time, scheduling has been difficult with other repairmen. Not with Punchman. They were flexible and considerate of our tight schedules, and made time when we could do it. Thanks to Punchman, our home looks better than it ever has. Our only regret was trying to do work ourselves instead of calling the pros from the get go. We will continue to use Punchman on our new house and strongly recommend anyone trying to fix up their home to do the same. Quick, courteous, and top shelf workmanship. Thank you guys for helping our family!

We had Total Home Repair put siding on our house and it turned out great. Mr. Davis is very knowledgeable in what he does. Mr. Davis and his crew where on time dressed and acted professional. I was impressed with the fact that his crew cleaned up everything, you wouldn't have known they were even there. We were surprised to see that it didn't take nearly as long as we thought or were told it would take..

Very pleased and actually ended up adding on projects! Various projects were completed and done perfectly! Chandelier installed, light fixtures installed in bathrooms, baseboards built/painted in bathroom, sheetrock repair/paint in master bathroom. My husband and I are grateful to have found someone honest, punctual, and knowledgeable to take care of things outside our capabilities!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
