FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The first time I meet with a new client is a free consultation and includes a vocal assessment. We discuss their musical background, their vocal goals, and through a few exercises I evaluate how their voice currently functions. Once we know where a singer is having difficulty with their voice, we can design a personalized exercise plan to reach their goals. I currently offer 25-minute sessions for $35 and 50-minute sessions for $70. If you would like weekly or bi-weekly scheduled lessons at a discount, I offer 10% off all lesson packages of 3+ when purchased together.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our first meeting is a free 20-25 minute consultation. We will spend time getting to know each other and I will ask what you hope to gain through lessons. I will offer you a vocal assessment after going through some exercises, and then we can make a specific plan to help you reach your goals. I believe that taking voice lessons mimics the relationship you have with a personal trainer at the gym. I will prescribe exercises that will help you strengthen your voice if you spend the time implementing them regularly until our next meeting. After we meet, you will have a good idea about how I work and what I can offer you. You will then be able to make the decision if working with me is the right choice for you. Absolutely no risk.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am certified in two continuing education programs. I am currently a level 2 instructor in IVA (the Institute of Vocal Advancement) and I am a certified instructor in Somatic Voicework. Both programs advocate voice instruction from a functional approach. My degrees in higher education are in music and I currently teach at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC and serve as professor of voice and director of opera studies. * Doctor of Musical Arts - University of Kansas * Master of Music in Opera Performance - Wichita State University * Bachelor of Arts in Music - John Brown University
