Introduction: Do you want to be able to play the cello or violin beautifully? I can help! Getting a beautiful sound comes from using certain muscles to move the bow- and I can help you with this! I’ve been teaching cello, fiddle, and electric violin to children and adults for over 15 years. In addition to your lesson, you’ll get -notes regarding what to work on -music emailed or texted to you -recordings to practice along with I’ll respond to your questions through the week as well! I am a trained Suzuki teacher, and have been a professor of violin and String Pedagogy (how to teach stringed instruments) at the University of Colorado. I enjoy teaching all styles of music including classical, Celtic, improvisation, bluegrass and Lindsey Stirling. I’ll help you meet your musical goals and we’ll have fun along the way! Former students have joined competitive youth orchestras, performed at church, won fiddling competitions, minored in music in college, joined amateur quartets, participated in bluegrass jams, or simply enjoyed their newfound ability to make music! I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from York College of Pennsylvania, and a Master's in Violin Pedagogy (teaching). I've performed with a variety of groups and styles throughout my career. I've played (and danced) electric violin with Cirque du Soliel, viola with the York Symphony Orchestra, viola with the Mile High String Quartet, and fiddle in a number of folk bands including the nationally acclaimed nature-based performance art group, Tree-O! I'd love to draw on my lengthy career as a teacher and performer in order to help you meet your musical goals!

My 9yo has been struggling to keep up with her cello in school and started loosing confidence in playing. Karen has been so great, not only with providing clear instructions but helping my daughter feel confident and makes her excited to play. She gives her clear direction on what to do in order to improve, provides recordings, videos and notes after each class. My daughters been waking up to practice BEFORE school, all on her own. As an adult student, I find it amazing that Karen always finds a way to make learning cello enjoyable and approachable. Learning a new instrument as an adult can be quite a challenge at times, but with Karen’s instruction I always feel motivated and encouraged to keep going! I have been taking lessons from her for a little over 4 months now and I’m so happy with how much progress I have made already. Whenever I hit a bump in the road or get stuck on something she never fails to have a practical solution that gets me unstuck and back to being excited to practice again. Karen’s years of experience as an educator and her natural talent as a teacher are felt the moment you meet her, and each lesson is something I look forward to every week. I simply could not have found a more passionate, professional, or consistent instructor to take lessons from.

Starting violin lessons as a senior adult was a challenge. Karen was the perfect teacher for me. She understood my goals and focused her teaching style to help me meet those goals. Her methods are sound, her personality welcoming. I appreciated that she was flexible and creative in her teaching. If one method didn't work, she would try something else. She listened. She was patient. She gets results and makes it enjoyable. I always looked forward to my lesson with Karen!

I offer a free 30 minute trial lesson
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Start with a free trial lesson, and if it feels like lessons will be a good fit we schedule our second lesson and discuss frequency (weekly, bi-weekly) If we are doing remote lessons, I’ll provide you with instructions that will help our remote lessons to be as productive as possible! I’ll send you the link for lessons, and we’ll get started. I’ll send you follow-up notes of what to work on as well as any recording or sheet music to print. I’ll respond to any questions you have through the week via email.
