- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Though I have not pursued advanced degrees, I consider my own passion for learning with others. A voracious reader of books, blogs, I continuously exchange of ideas with peers, mentors and business leaders. Believing that practical conversations can guide good decision-making, I continue to coach and mentor students at the University of Memphis (MILE mentoring program) and small business owners (National Association of Women Business Owners, BNI:Business Network International), and Association for Talent Development (formerly ASTD).
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
A life-changing experience that woke me up to the fact that I wasn't paying attention. In fact, I was "living by default" instead of "living on purpose." Once I realized the ways I was being less than honest with myself, I saw how it seeped into other areas of my life, and vowed to make the changes that would attract what I really in my life, beginning with more authentic relationships. Through my own pain, I was empowered to become what Henri Nouwen calls a "wounded healer." Learning to be discerning (without being judgmental) lends itself to a creating a "safe place" for people to do their work in personal growth.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Building high-trust relationships and high-performance teams via corporate training, workshops, and keynotes -- all based on the principles in my book, Integrity-Based Communications. Majority of corporate work begins with integration of my Integrity-Based Communications (IBC) model into existing internal leadership programs, especially related to client engagement, with escalating difficulty in successfully navigating "presentation as conversation." Personalized coaching between live classroom modules is the signature differentiater in Shelley Baur programs. I also work with entrepreneurs, professionals and team leaders who want to communicate more confidently and work together more successfully, face to face and online.
