- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was a business owner with responsibility for the livelihood of 20 people. Industry forces changed my business and made me functionally obsolete. I managed to transfer the business to a group that had more capacity to absorb the increased costs of that industry. My decision to leave that industry was the beginning of my entry into business and real estate consulting. I knew that I loved working with business owners and saw an opportunity to continue in a different way.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Finding a new retail or office space for a tenant. Finding a building to house a business or for an investor. Finding tenants or buyers for vacant spaces or buildings. Helping entrepreneurs find new opportunities or to sell when they are ready to leave the business. I also offer consulting for business owners who are not ready to make a move, but just need good advice on how to position themselves best for a future change.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask for some success stories that relate to your situation. You want to make sure this is not their first transaction or consulting gig. Ask what they like most about what they do. If the answer is not focused around solving a problem and making the customer happy, they are likely to put your interests behind their own. Ask for references. A good service provider has at least a few people they can count on for a testimonial.
