I have bought off the shelf work and hired for 2 projects as custom commissions. The experience was what stood out: proactive progress shots, clear communication, no weird behavior about price. I continue to look at all of the pieces produced and have a few larger scale mural projects in mind that I am hoping to get done this year or next.

From Six Degrees Salon. We had only 1 month to do a build out on new salon in West End Ave . It was a complete demo and rebuild from floors to ceiling, build walls, relocating plumbing on several areas and install equipment. Our budget was tight and the bid was right. He and his crew did a great job! Only a fee days over our time frame and a little over the bid. However, I added several change orders. Like adding electrical and adding a tank less hot water system. And he got it done and I extremely pleased. He's a man of his word and on his game. He even suggested a few changes to make the space look and function better. I called him after the job was done to install added equipment and he cam within a 2 days to get it done. If you are in time crunch as I was with ending leases and new leases. Chris is the go to guy! When I open my second location, I will most definitely call this company to do the work Oh , and he's easy to talk to and be around. Honest. Dependable. Hardworking. #lovechrisstubblefield

Just simply a class act from beginning to end. Michael and his employees were absolutely everything I could have asked for in a contractor, and the work that was done was top-notch. I had a list of tasks I needed done in my kitchen: a new dishwasher and garbage disposal installed, a stove top removed, a gas line installed, cabinets removed, new gas stove installed, a large section of wood floor repaired, and foyer with 20 ft. ceilings that needed repaired, retaped and painted. I was having a difficult time finding one contractor who was willing to tackle such a wide variety of tasks for a competitive price, and then through Thumbtack, I found Michael Jimenez, who gave me a great quote, was able to do the job in under a week, and the end result was just outstanding. Michael and his crew were punctual, polite, and efficient. Proper care was taken to protect my belongings and everything was returned to its original location upon completion. We have three dogs, which added to the confusion, but Michael and his staff were super good-natured about the pets, were careful not to leave gates or doors open, and worked around 3 very curious and nosy dogs without any issues. The completed project is perfect, my kitchen is exactly as I imagined it, and all thanks to M & M Coating. I encourage you to consider Michael and his team for any home improvement projects you've been considering, you will be glad you did. For an honest, experienced, competitively priced, efficient and professional contractor, look no further than Michael Jimenez and M & M Coating.

Lydia did my makeup and hair for my junior prom. She could not have done a better job; I loved everything about it! She curled my hair and wrapped it around the headband I provided, so it would not slide off of my head. Also, my face was contoured perfectly and I loved the colors she used on my eyes. Overall everything was fabulous.

When we arrived overseas and inquired about covering our pack porch, we were told we had to talk to Jeff Singleton. He was fully cleared by the base to do work on military housing, which is a level of permission not easy to come by. We live in one of the snowiest places on earth (I'm not joking), and we knew this cover would have to be rock solid in order to handle not only the snow that would fall on it, but all of the ice blocks that would fall from the other roofs that all converged at our back porch. Jeff constructed a fantastic covering for us, and we were happily able to grill outside without having to dig a walking path through the snow to get to the grill. We've had dozens of good-sized earthquakes over the last two years, and not even our 6.1 not too long ago fazed this roof. Jeff had a reputation for being a hard worker who was dependable and knowledgable, and we certainly found this to be true. I recommend him without reservation.

Mr. Willoughby replaced a fan for me, replaced porch lights, a storm door and mailbox. He also built a beautiful small porch to replace out small concrete stoop, made custom shutters for us and painted the front door. He is very comfortable to have around, easy to talk to, fanatical about his work and trustworthy. I will have him back for future work including a bathroom remodel.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How many types of welding are there?

Welding is a method of fusing together two or more pieces of metal using electricity or flame. Welding is used to construct buildings, make metal sculptures, build and repair cars, make gates and furniture, and for many other practical and aesthetic uses. There are multiple types of welding. Here is an overview of the most popular methods:

    • Stick welding: Formally known as shielded metal arc welding, stick welding uses extreme heat applied at the seam of two separate metals to melt them together. A third (intermediary) metal may also be incorporated for added strength. As the metals cool, they are bonded together.
    • Metal inert gas (MIG) welding: Formally known as gas metal arc welding, MIG welding uses a tool to feed metal wire into the weld puddle while an electrical arc melts the wire, which will fuse to the base metal upon cooling.
    • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding: Formally referred to gas tungsten arc welding, TIG welding is a similar process MIG welding, but instead of using a tool that continuously feeds metal wire into the weld puddle, the welder must hold and manually feed the stick.
    • Gas welding: A mix of flammable gas and oxygen is used to heat metal to the melting point.
    • Forge welding: Forging metal is an ancient art that involves heating two pieces of metal until they are molten, then hammering them together.

    How long is welding training?

Because there are different paths to learning to weld, there’s no single timeline for welding training. Some people attend school part-time while working their current job, while others can focus full-time on their welding training courses. People interested in learning how to weld as a hobby can also take classes from professional welders, such as at KCMA & Services in Waterloo, Indiana.

Expect to take at least two years to go from welding newbie to American Welding Society Certified Welder. A junior college Certificate of Completion welding course is two semesters full-time, or 10 units of coursework. With this certificate, students are qualified for an apprenticeship or internship, rather than a full-time entry-level job. Welding apprenticeships range from 6,000 to 8,000 hours long, equalling three to four years at 2,000 hours per year. Some junior colleges, such as Cerritos College in the Los Angeles area, offer more in-depth welding programs that lead to different welding certifications, such as arc welding and tungsten gas arc welding. These take three to four semesters to complete, so you could be qualified for an entry-level job in about two years of full-time study. Alternatively, you can prepare for employment more quickly through an intensive vocational program at a trade school. For instance, Ohio’s Lincoln Electric Company offers a comprehensive program that prepares people for a welding career in just 20 weeks and 600 hours of hands-on instruction.

Where can I take welding classes?

Your options for welding classes depend on where you live and whether you’re willing to travel. Many skilled professionals offer private or group welding classes across the U.S. Some high schools offer classes for teens, but many people learn from a private trainer or in a junior college or vocational school. Students learn basic welding, machining and fabrication processes, including using gas and arc welding equipment, and qualify for an apprenticeship or internship. Other colleges as well as vocational schools have two-year associate’s degree programs that prepare you to take the welding certification exam and seek full-time employment.

    How much is welding training?

The cost of welding training depends on where you take your classes and how quickly you want to complete the program. In general, junior college welding classes are the least expensive, but may take longer; trade schools offer intensive classes that lead to certification more quickly, but are more expensive. For example, Cerritos College, a junior college in Los Angeles that offers a welding training course, charges an average of $46 per unit; most of their welding certificate programs require 19 units of coursework, so cost about $875 each to complete. Pro-Weld, an on-site welding school in Idaho, offers three different welding courses. The 36-week welder fabrication and the 24-week gas tungsten arc welding courses each cost an average of $3,300, while pipe welding costs an average of $2,500 for a 24-week session or an average of $4,500 for a 52-week session. The 20-week comprehensive program at the Lincoln Electric Company in Ohio costs an average of $9,500. Many programs require students to purchase approximately $120-$200 worth of personal welding equipment in addition to textbooks or other class material fees.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
