Introduction: In my music lessons we use material that the student already enjoys listening to. I do not supply the same few songs to all my students for the purposes of teaching. I am constantly learning new material that my students introduce me to. Finding ways to connect the songs the student enjoys to the theory and technique of the instrument. I find that every one of my students expands my knowledge on different kinds of music and helps me find new ways to reach any kind of learner. With this style of teaching I cannot approach each student the same way with the same material. That keeps me growing as a person and teacher and not everyone can say that about their job!

Walsh was my voice teacher in Boston for 2 years in 2013-14. He has everything I look for when it comes to music education. He is incredibly prepared when it comes to technical skills, and he has a wide musical culture which makes him capable to teach different styles of singing according to every genre. He always has a positive approach, and he's always encouraging and very patient when it comes to difficult exercises. Learning with him is very easy, because his explanations are clear and articulated. Walsh is the kind of teacher that makes you learn something new with every class. If you're looking to improve your skills, expand your musical culture, learn and have fun at the same time, then Walsh is the perfect teacher for you.

Walsh teaches me guitar. He is extremely patient and kind during lessons, and obviously has a expert knowledge of the guitar.

When I first found Walsh on Thumbtrack, I had recently moved to Nashville. I had taken vocal lessons back home, and was happy with the progress, but it did not compare to the progress I have made with Walsh. As soon as I moved I went in search for vocal and guitar lessons to continue learning. Before I found Walsh for guitar lessons, I had already started vocal lessons with another coach. But after working with Walsh, I was amazed with his knowledge of music and his understanding of what it was that I was working towards. I switched to him for everything. I soon started going to him not only for guitar, but for vocal lessons, and songwriting tips. Each lesson I leave a better player, writer, and performer. Each session, and outside of the lesson he never fails to go the extra mile with material, support, and tips. I would not be where I am today if I hadn’t stumbled across his page. If you are as serious, and passionate about music as I am and are looking for a coach that is well rounded, knowledgeable, honest, friendly and hardworking you will be very pleased with Walsh! I am proud to call him my coach, and a friend.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The FIRST FREE LESSON is where I get to know the students musical interests. After going over some initial information on their instrument we look over their favorite music to find a song that we could start working on. With every lesson I like to leave having already started playing, singing, or writing a song.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where I studied Music Business and Songwriting. I have been teaching for over four years with students who have a wide range or ages, styles, and interests. Having been trained classically when I first started singing I have a strong foundation of proper technique that incorporates itself into any style of singing that the student may be interested in. My guitar playing also spans genres and styles that allows me to teach a variety of ways. For over fifteen years I have been singing and performing professionally both across the US and Internationally. With my long history with music I am ready and excited to get to share my passion for music with everyone.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

One of my students came to me to start taking guitar lessons. He practiced and was progressing very well. Although after a conversation during a lesson I found out that he was interested not only in guitar but also singing and some songwriting. With this student we found a way to combine the songwriting and some basic singing into the guitar lessons. By choosing songs that he could both sing and learn on the guitar he advanced with his timing and independence between the guitar and his voice. Adding songwriting to the lesson was simple by giving him some new chords each lesson to create with. The next week he had a much better grasp on chord transitions just by trying to write a little song based on the chords I had given him. Using the students goals and being flexible make my lessons fun and motivating.
