Introduction: Hello. My name is Brad Braswell and I am the owner of Homescapes Landscaping Company. Homescapes was founded in 1993 and is serving Chattanooga and the surrounding area. My background includes a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design. We offer a wide variety of outdoor services which include landscape design and installation, hardscaping (walkways, patios, retaining walls), low voltage L.E.D. lighting, and outdoor living space design and construction (kitchens, fireplaces). Recently, we have added property maintenance to our list of services. This list includes weekly lawn mowing (Ooltewah area only), house soft washing, and pressure washing of hard surfaces.

Before and after pictures tell the story of what happens when a master landscaper meets a yard in desperate need of a new beginning. We are thrilled with the recently completed landscaping by Homescapes Landscaping. The makeover could qualify to be featured in a Better Homes and Gardens magazine. During the day, the landscaping is eye candy from any angle. As soon as night falls, it is a sparkling jewel with the new LED lights Brad installed to replace the old non-LED lighting. At our first meeting, Brad talked with us about what we wanted and did not want. Subsequently, he presented a plan that incorporated our desires and his vast knowledge of plants and landscaping. We agreed on the plan and the price, making a few minor adjustments as it progressed to completion. Brad began our project by removing all of the old landscaping except for one much-loved River Birch tree. He then removed all of the old landscape lighting. He also built a retaining wall around the River Birch to prevent further erosion of the soil and to create a bed for new plants. He also installed two additional sprinklers. Next, Brad brought in the plants and 12 handsome boulders. The top soil he chose was rich and nurturing to the new plants and he topped it all off with a high grade of mulch. Brad incorporated a variety of textures and colors into the landscape. We have several greens - dark forest greens, gray-greens, typical greens - reds, pinks and purples along with a brilliant display of yellow flowers. Anchoring the overall look of trees and shrubs is the rich texture and color of a dozen beautiful boulders. While installing the landscaping, Brad also managed to turn a lingering drainage problem near our front porch into a creative work of art by constructing a small creek rock bed to drain rain water away from the sidewalk. All together, he incorporated seven new trees that will grow to varying heights and 91 bushes (some evergreens, some flowering, and some changing colors from one season to another) into our landscape. Now, a few months after planting in mid-March, everything is living and thriving – new leaves, new flowers, new life. He can do it all. When Mr. Braswell arrived on time for our appraisal appointment, we were very impressed because other contractors had previously let us down or never showed up. After looking over our property, he had a good idea of what we would like our new home exterior to look like. We had a huge job, and he was not the least bit intimidated to jump in with both feet. We did not want our front landscape to look overgrown in 5 years. We wanted a front walk to connect our steps out to the driveway, to have a gentle curve and no straight lines. Other than that, we had no idea of what the walkway material should consist of. He gave us price options for the different materials, with pros and cons of each. He also gave us an idea of labor involved for each type of material and how it would stand up over the years. Mr. Braswell suggested installing a low retaining wall, which would make the walkway stand out against our elevated front porch. He provided us with a layout of where the bushes and trees would be located, along with the walkway and retaining wall. All throughout this process, he was very much in tune to our wants and needs. When he laid out the plan for our landscaping, he told us what the bushes would look like. Some suggestions we did not care for, but he very willingly gave us other options to check out on the internet. We also met him at several nurseries and showrooms to make the final choices of shrubs, trees and pavers. All throughout the landscaping process, Mr. Braswell involved us with all required decisions, including cost changes when necessary. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our landscape and we will hire Brad again in the future if the need arises. He is a very honest, hard-working man and we do not hesitate giving him our highest recommendation.

Brad has been a wonderful help to us! We were under contract for a home (moving to TN from GA) and needed the cost to fix the homes driveway. Brad went above and beyond to help! He went out to the house on several occasions' to meet with an asphalt company. Brad was even able to get the owner of the asphalt company to come out so they could both bounce ideas off each other. In the end, the project was way over (our) budget! It would start at $20,000.00 and only go up from there. We decided not to purchase the home after finding out the cost to repair the driveway, the cost to repair the fireplace and the cost to repair the electric. I would defiantly hire Brad for a project should what ever home we do purchase needs landscaping. He was sooo helpful, honest and answered the phone every time I called him.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We do not offer a set fee due to the fact that each project is different. Site conditions, clients goals, and budgets vary. We price a project based on the landscape plan that we develop.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We come to the property and meet with a potential client to determine what they want to accomplish and determine if they have any ideas of their own. We then assess the site for any potential problems such as unsightly views, privacy issues, drainage challenges, etc. At that point, we develop a scaled plan to accomplish their goals and solve any problem issues using their own ideas as well as implementing ours. Homescapes plans and builds landscapes on a simple premise. We install projects NOT FOR WHAT THEY ARE BUT FOR WHAT THEY WILL BE. A landscape is a living changing product and we plan for that so that the client doesn't have to.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned a B.S. degree in Landscape Design from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1987.
