FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Every job varies. Whether it be a simple, half an hour weld job, to a fully customized, CAD designed job. I do everything I can to get accurate material costs, and let the customer know roughly, within a few hours of how long it will take me.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In a short layout, either through Thumbtack or any other means of initial contact: The first step is a phone or in person conversation. Once I know what the customer is looking for I begin the initial quote for material, design, etc. From there we can discuss timeline if we haven't discussed prior. Once everything has been decided and agreed upon, we both sign a work/confidentiality/payment contract and I begin the work. I keep the customer updated daily on progress. By doing so, if there are any changes that are requested, I can do so to deliver a finished product they are happy with.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I spent most of my summers going to work with my father, who is a nuclear/mechanical engineer. He has owned his own firm as long as I can remember. During the summer months, rather than sit around, he would send me back to help his guys in the shop. Anything from sweeping floors, moving small things around, and putting tools up. Around 10 years old was when I first got to get hands on experience with CNC machines, welding, mill and lathe work. From then on, I have been hooked. I would find scrap metal laying around just to weld it and try to make something out of nothing. It's a passion I have and love and hope to continue passing down what knowledge I have for years to come.
