FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
There is no complicated system in how I price my services. I charge either an hourly rate, fixed rate and a small cost-plus percentage on any item I buy at wholesale price. If an hourly rate is involved I offer an estimated time for the job with the understanding that the price could be less. If the scope of work increases and more time is needed on the project, I consult with my client in advance and together we come to an agreement on price. A fixed price gives my client a clear end cost and is based on the scope of work presented at the beginning of the project. A retainer fee is requested at the start with two more payments occurring in the middle of the project and at the completion of the project. If you're on a tight budget, don't assume that hiring a designer is beyond reach. Many will be happy to arrange a few hours of consulting or will help you source furnishings and decorative accents.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Color, scale and form come very natural to me and it was just the obvious choice when I entered college. I couldn't imagine doing anything else, except painting. My other passion is the canvas.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
What keeps me coming back for more is that every client has a unique need and style. Every project is something new and I welcome change.
