Understand what you're getting when you engage a marketing consultant. If it is just tactics with no strategy or key messages to really set your business apart from the competition, you'll probably throw away more money on marketing that doesn't stick. If it just strategy with no tactics, you'll be equally frustrated without a plan of action. Ask to see case studies and testimonials to see what results they have gotten for their clients. Make sure there is a good fit. Does their communication and leadership style fit in with your business? Do you like them? Understand how you'll be charged. Is it a flat fee, hourly rate, or something else. Ask them how you know you'll be successful.
