Richard has been working with our daughter for two years now and has been the most dedicated private instructor. Ostensibly, his goal for lessons has been to inspire her to practice and grow musically. He has gone well beyond that to help her to grow as a human being. I unreservedly recommend Richard as "the" bass lesson instructor in Austin!

I have been a voice coach and jazz educator for the past 38 years and finding Richard has been a gift! When I do ensemble master classes with Richard on bass he is always supportive, instructional, honest and inspirational. I cannot recommend him enough if you are looking for a bass teacher or outstanding music theory instructor. Richard Mikel is an exceptional teacher.

Richard is very professional with a nice personal touch. Also, very good with follow-up phone calls and checking up on progress.

Richard has been teaching my teenage son bass guitar for a month now and we are extremely happy with our son's progress and Richard's teaching ability. My son likes Richard's pacing, and feels like he has lots of interesting assignments to work on and is making good progress. As a parent, I trust Richard as a person, I feel his communication is excellent and the lesson price is right. Glad to have found a teacher of Richard Mikel's quality on Thumbtack!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Lesson prices are $75 an hour and $60 for 45 minuntes. An introductory lesson is offered for $30.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have years of real world performance and teaching experience. During my second year of school at the University of Northern Colorado I began teaching private lessons. A few years later I was hired as the bass instructor at Temple College in Temple, TX. In addition to private lessons I was a regular clinician at grade schools, festivals and camps in the central Texas area.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Prospective students should have an idea of what they are looking for in lessons. Broad goals are a great start, but zeroing in on their specific interests only makes the learning process more fun.
